I've just picked up an explorer 4 ltr and the owner said he was supprised how many miles per gallon the thing would do ! I thought yeah, right, BUT !

I've just been out for a big run and the beast appears to have done around 25-27 mpg (British).

It has the overdrive on the auto box and compared to most SUV,s it it only ticking over at 65-70 mph on English motorways.

Could this figure be right or am I deluding myself !

25 British MPG is 20 US MPG.

I do get 20, sometimes 21 US MPG in mine if I drive carefully enough.

Heh, 20MPG from an Explorer? Lucky. My Lumina with a 3.1L V6 gets about 15MPG city, 18MPG if I'm lucky...

If you drive it on a low speed freeway the Explorer can do 20 MPG.

Run it in Winter, sit in a lot of traffic jams, lots of short journeys, a bit of towing, then clearly it will make the Chevy seem economical.
