For those who have seen or driven both at the track, how does the G-20 stand up to the Elise?

I know it really depends on the driver & spec but I saw them both on a track last year and the Ginetta ate it for lunch!!!

The Elise has to be set up for general road driving (Lotus not wanting to get sued when the bodywork keeps dissapearing on speed bumps), whereas the Ginetta can be a little less compromising.

Also, it is cheaper for short run sports cars to have adjustable everything to cope with manufacturing tolerances, whereas again with the Lotus almost mass production techniques rule.

The end result is that it is very easy to set a Ginetta up to go very fast around a track, with very few road cars able to touch it, whereas it is much harder to do this with the Lotus.

At the end of the day, an Elise ran sensibly well in the British GT championship last year, so everything is possible, but I don't think you would easily pick up an equivalent car in the showroom - and you would be looking at considerably more money than the £12k it would cost you for a seriously well race prep'd G20.

I'd say my S2000 in standard trim would lap in similar times to, say, an Elise 111S (bit more power, bit less grip). However, the Ginetta eats the Honda for breakfast - to the tune of seconds per lap.

Never on the track, but I've had the pleaseure of playing around in a G4 (soft version of the 20) and various Elises.

As mentioned above, the fact everything on the Ginetta's are adjustable means you can get a lot more out of it for a lot less cash, but at the expense of road handling and I would have to say general quality.

I would say the Ginetta is a far more capable car quid for quid and in stock form, but it needs more skill and repect to get the most out of it.
An Elise on the other hand flatters the driver and is optimised to make things easy for you, with a lot of money invested to get it like that.

The Ginettas are more brutal all round, but they pay you back for the effort you put in.

Oh, and to answer the question they can thrash Elises round tracks
