Great to see a G15 again. Get it on the road again!

Ah, saw that on the cars left to die thread. Your dad's G15 - wondering if I might have known him (I seem to recall a wooden boot rack on one) - I won't ask your surname on here but I've just messaged the Registrar of the owner's club, knowing him he'll probably come back with the complete history of the car from day one!
However, if it's an unknown to the club G15 (doubtful, but if it is, don't let it go!) that will be something special.

You stated your dad has had the car from almost new on the other thread - the last (M reg) G15s left the Ginetta factory in 1974.
The G15 by then had already become a force to be reckoned with on the race circuits and in motorsport.
And in 1979 Alison Davis took Prodsports by storm in her G15, winning the class and the overall championship to become the first ever woman to win a national race championship.

I have contacted the Registrar with your photo of your dad's G15. You are correct, it's not recognised by him. Your dad probably has a G15 that is unknown to the Ginetta community then. For one to come out of the blue like that is unusual. Back in late 70s and in the 80s we filled shows and pub car parks with Ginettas (predominantly G15s of course).
Below is pic in 1981 with a pub car park full of Ginettas - foreground is a Ginetta G4 Series IV which had just been launched by the factory and brought along by an active member of GOC (Ginetta Owners' Club).

For one late model G15 to be unknown is unusual, to say the least.

Any chance of its registration, or PM with it so I can pass it on to the Registrar?

Unfortunately it’s more than likely going to be going on the market in the next couple of months as I’ve got a mini pick up and a 1978 911s to do and no space but reg is NEH790K it’s an April 1972 car. I just keep swapping between the mini and this as to which to do first but the fibreglass work puts me off 😂

Oh okay - yeah, it does look like a lot of extra work - I know you can only do so much when taking on car projects! Thanks for the reg, I'll pass it on - don't sell the car yet until I see if we (registrar) comes up with any interesting previous history of prev owner etc. I'll let you know. Cheers.

It’s not bad at all to be honest the frame was painted in the 1980s and isn’t rotten and it had new brakes suspensions and engine rebuild then just sat obviously everything wants doing again but majority will ok then the body which isn’t so bad. And all the trim is there

I’ve even got a new windscreen but it’s advertised because I’m focusing on this.

Hi Terry (only just spotted your post)

You must have missed my post 22 days earlier (above dated 7 Mar). In that post I said I'd pass the info on (to Trevor), and did, and we discovered it was a 'missing' G15 for many years on his register.

In fact, much of what I hear on here is passed on to him if of interest.
Take the latest GOC mag issue 173 on p.24 re the story from a 1986 issue (No. 32) in the search for the missing G11.

A 'Dick Voss' of Leeds built an Ashley special which had featured in Practical Motorist at the time. It stated the hardtop came from a crashed G16.
As the G16 doesn't have a hardtop, and the windscreen on this Ashley looked a little like a G11 coupe windscreen, panic set in and not just me, others too thought it may have come from the missing G11.
All these years passed with no finding the Ashley special nor Mr Voss.
Until this last week.

I'd posted the story up on Pistonheads as to whether anyone knew of a 'Dick Voss' of Leeds or the Ashley pictured?
One reply cracked the nut!
Not of Mr Voss whereabouts but that the hardtop was probably a (Triumph) so Practical Motorist had simply made a 'typo' - meant to have read GT6 not GI6.
I let Trev know and he'd simultaneously sussed it out too!
35 YEARS!
That's how long it took before such a simple error was realised. So obvious, staring us in the eyes.

Even better, how's this? Trev searched back his records and found that one Richard (Dick?) Voss at the time was actually a member of GOC! He owned a G15.
As Trev said, perhaps he still does?

Anyway, the good news is it means the missing G11 is probably still out there.

To be fair I was just trying to make the point that most of us here are members of the GOC and we have a fully working forum specifically for these discussions.
It would just be really nice to have it there rather than on another forum that does not even tell you when another post has been made tumbleweedwink
All the best
Terry

I am not a Ginetta owner (used to have a race G20) but I pop in here occasionally out of interest and I certainly like to see this sort of thread, all in one place with chat about other Marques I like.
