Found a few minutes spare again this evening in between doing bits on a Herald that's been off the road since 1974, and an MX5 with a big Nissan V6 shoehorned into it...

Not much, but steering arms on the uprights, and the bearing dust guards tapped into place.

Paint marked of course...

The other bolt hole for the steering arm normally has a dust shield behind it, and as this car uses Herald and Spitfire uprights, with Vitesse discs, and Triumph 2000 calipers, they dont fit. However, I'm going to try fitting some, possibly over the weekend and see if they can be trimmed to fit.

Finally the spherical joint was slid into place with the taper spacer, and nyloc. One didn't quite fit. Amazingly it was a burr on the end of the shaft that I couldn't see, nor feel with my finger, but I gave it the once round with a super-fine file and a bit of scotchbrite and she slid on nicely. The nylocs were then torqued up, remembering that one is a LH thread!

Hi, please don't throw bricks for resurrecting this post, but reading it and seeing the mention of the Jag rear end conversion made me wonder if it is the car I found in the loft of a golf course barn in 2007. It was completely dismanteled, but everything was there except a full engine. The only engine part were an Alfa Nord block and head. here is picture of the recepit from the Ginetta works for the jag conversion. I remember the chassis number ended in X1100.

Good to see another Ginetta come out of the wood work.
Be good if you shared this on the Ginetta Owners Club forum.

Interesting , so thats just before the car went to Spadge, I suppose you can't remember what type of bonnet the car had? Pop up round headlights? Colour Red?
Have you any photos?

Thanks
Terry

The car was indeed red. Here are some pictures including the bonnet. Most of these were taken where I found the car. I'm pretty sure it was a private buyer who bought it from me. I had intended to restore it, but a new born stopped that plan. If it is the same car it's wonderful to see it returned to it's former glory.

All the best

No need to apologise for thread resurrection, I should apologise for not keeping the thread updated!

That is some very interesting history, as I would venture that is the same car, as I have found evidence of red paint, and the chassis at the back looks identical (ie, very shoddy fabrication work - holes drilled so close to the edge of the angle iron that they broke through the edge etc). And the chassis number is also the same. Wheels are also the same.

However, I don't know if Spadge or one of the other guys from GH bought it from you or if there was someone else in between as I seem to remember being told that it had come with a Lotus Twink engine that we could have had at extra cost.

Once again progress has stalled a bit on this, just too many customer cars for my (or my families) cars to get a look in!

I mean to say Clearways - do you have that documentation in physical form, or only the digital copy. Could we arrange for you to send it to me, along with any photos you have (or copies of your photos) to add to the cars history file please?

Minor update, but not on the car unfortunately.

My father has now retired (ish) so he's going to help me with the rebuild, so there may be quicker progress!

In other news I had a spare G4 seat shell that I've had retrimmed by a leather worker oop north at The Anvil Workshop.

I think it looks really nice and probably far nicer than any in periot seat!

The base can be removed to access fitting bolts etc.

The minorist of minor updates, but I had a few minutes free in the workshop earlier this evening so I got the diff mounted. By heck it was heavy lifting that thing in by hand! Still she's in. I need to sort a few more fixings, then the brakes and driveshafts can go in.

Jonny Jimbo I only have digital pictures. All the paperwork went with the car. You should be able to DM me now via the forum and we can make the arrangments for you to receive all the images I have.

Well, it's been a bit slow on the Ginetta, or rather my updates have been slow!

My father has now (finally!) retired so he can spend a bit more time on the car, although I'm still going a fair bit of the work.

We have the front suspension pretty much there, although we found the steering rack needed modifying to fit.

Rear suspension is pretty much there too with new rose joints etc too.

However, there are other changes happening in life too so I too hope to spend a few more hours on this!

We had hoped to get the rolling chassis to the AGM this year, but it's on Jubilee weekend and we have other plans...

I've spent a small fortune on bits for this now too, so hopefully we get to drive it soon!

Well, I have set myself a goal to get one thing ticked off the list on the Ginetta every time I go into the workshop, so the rear arms have been loosely assembled, and the front shocks loosely fitted too.

I'll need to get some custom made misalignment spacers made, so I've ordered some stainless steel 304 billet for that. Also the old rear damper bushes were totally shot - they looked like they've been on fire! AVO have changed since these were built, so although the dampers are still good the bushes can't be sourced. I've looked round Powerflex, Superflex etc and can't find anything off the shelf to suit, as a result I'm getting nylon bushes made to use for setting up purposes whilst deciding if we just buy new dampers or get bushes moulded to suit.
