Ford and swelling wheel nuts

Yes, so certain ford wheel nuts have a stainless steel cap over the actual nut for aesthetic purposes (they look nicer than a rusty nut on display). You're supposed to remove this cap before attacking the nut with your 10000Nm impact wrench...but most people/fast fit garages don't because they're a bugger to get off.
This is the best image I could find as an example - these are locking nuts but you get the idea...
I have to say that I've never come across this swelling issue before?, and the OP says they're second hand which makes me think they're probably a non-genuine item?
I think I'd probably pursue this further as well.
