you can just about get your hand to the clock through the glove box, feeling around you can pop the spade connectors off and remove the bulb socket with bulb. Iam sure it will be just a 5w bulb that just glows orange as it so low wattage. I can send you a white LED for you to try, but you have to be able to feel the connectors back on. I have done it many a time. I realy do not know what other colour will do.

Cheers david,
u have mail

I have had the dash off (see me profile)
so am not to worried or fazed by taking it off again, just wondering if the white bulbs would have a better brighter effect on the yellow dials.

Having sat in a cupboard with the lights off, a 12v power supply, a load of LED's, and a speedo. I do decree that you cannot get as good a effect as VW using blue LEDS on standard clocks (even used 8 in total 4 per lamp) it just kind of glows blue but nothing special, however the white LED's are a 1000% improvement on the shite bulbs.

Having gone out and looked closer at the passat they seem to have "light pipes" running up the needle and each numeral/marking appears translucent in order to give the better effect. Blue LEDS should be left for wiper jets.
