I am now busy on the aircon system. I got out the 2 long hoses that run through the fender. Just want to have new ones. Looking at the top of the evaporator box, i do not know what to do. It is covered in a tar subtance and i have the feeling there is Google's new hose centre beneath it.

I want to have all the hoses renewed. What is underneath. Just 2 little hoses that go to the evaporator wehich can be renewed easily or is it a lot more?

Is it worthwile to renew......?

That is the evaporator. Its a coil of copper pipe with aluminium fins so what you can see under the black stuff is the copper pipe. The TXV should be on the top and thats where the renewable hoses connect.

That would be your filter/drier for the a/c.

It removes any moisture from the gas in your system which would cause your expansion valve to freeze up.

If your a/c has not been charged for a while this will need to be replaced prior to charging as the desiccant will be knackered.

If you are servicing your a/c it's worth changing anyway! biggrin

And if you're changing the filter/drier then you might as well change the trinary switch that's mounted to it. If the trinary switch plays up your aircon won't work and chaging it means getting all the gas taken out, swapping it, and getting the system re-gassed.

Racign Green sell one but the wiring is different. This thread explains how to wire the new one up.

Thanks for all your advice, Guys - most appreciated thumbup

I watched Edd China's Vid on AC Systems but couldn't identify this particular piece.

My situation is a little different in that I'm ripping all that deadweight out smashhehe

Peeling the tar away a bit, I saw that this was copper pinig. So, I covered it again and changed the 2 long aircon hoses.

Out of interest does anyone have a wiring diagram for the air on system in the Cerbera, mine is playing up.

I don't have a diagram but having used the wiring manual online and the MBE ECU pinout diagram that's floating around PH the air con is controlled as follows:

When the a/c button is pressed the heater control box puts out 12v on the a/c request pin to the thermostat in the driver's footwell, by your right knee.

The thermostat is there to stop the evaporator freezing solid. If it's closed it'll pass 12v to the trinary switch in the left hand front wheel arch. I linked to trinary switch woring earlier on this thread. Bit difficult to do again on my phone!

From the trinary switch it goes to the ECU. At least it does on a standard car. IIRC you've got the shiny MBE from Dom. The ECU checks that throttle position and RPM is within range and sends 12v back to the control box (ac acknowledge pin).

When the heater control box sees 12v on the a/c request pin it will use a 3rd pin to send 12v to the air con compressor clutch.

Fan activation is controlled by the mid pressure switch in the trinary switch. One fan should cut in as system pressure rises.

How did you access the evaporator?
Is it just a case of peeling away the carpet in the drivers footwell, or is there more to it than that?

Thanks

Removing the carpet and the fiberglass access panel in the footwell will give you access. To remove it from the wing the steering column and pedal box need to come out.
