Bound brake disc

A quick technical query if thats okay...

On my Nova (really!) the right rear brake disc seems to be bound (the wheel is locked solid), after the car was parked up for a long time... (With the handbrake on... my brother did it...) The wheel doesn't turn at all even though I have tried driving the car... How do I fix it? :)

When you release the handbrake, does the cable to that side go loose? If not, I suspect you have a seized cable, snip the end and replace. If the cable does go slack you'e got a harder problem, either the handbrake mechanism seized or shoes have rusted onto the drum. Both are going to be a b*gger to fix.

thanks I shall try and have a look later though I suspect that this a problem that is beyond my means to fix... I don't even have axle stands and dont't fancy having a go with the car just jacked up...
