Try and find somewhere that uses the Boss Touchless Tyre Machine.
That's the best chance you have of incurring no damage.
I clean my wheels and then photograph them immediately before tyre fitting (ie at the fitter's). It makes the subsequent argument about the damage being pre-existing a short one.
My local Protyre are excellent (no damage, correctly inflated and torqued by hand).
