I have and S-Type (Pacific Blue metalic)and the paint is so soft. you only have to show it a stone and it chips/scratches !!!!

I have used all the proprietry polishes but it seems to make no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to coat it with to give a little more protection?

I seem to spend all my time rubbing the paintwork with autoglym paint renovator!!

Help me get my life back

This could be a paint fault, is the car still under warranty? My dad had his entire Volvo V40 resprayed under warranty, you could mark the paint with a fingernail. They took it to an independent body shop for a written opinion and that was good enough for them to do it.

I think an unbiased opinion would be wise...

ok unbiased opinion
there seem to be two separate issues here. one is the chipping
This can only be down to poor bond between the layers of paint, caused by lack of proper surface prep, contamination or incompatable primer /base/ laquer combination. In short somthing aint sticking to somthing
you can get this with over thick aplication of the paint as well. If there is a buildup the layers can become unstable. this is increasingly bad when waterborne paints are used in inexperianced hands. The base can become too thick and that would chip easily
there is a standard industy test called a cross hatch test. Basically the problem area is scored, in a you guessed it crosshatch pattern .If the paint comes off theres a problem with the aplication in some way
now you also say it scratches easily and is soft? thats odd because a soft finish usually doesnt chip easily as the paint will flex slightly rather than delaminating
has the car had any repair work? Are the problems limited to one panel or all over ?
