Primer for Rust
Discussion
I have some rust on a 2003 Mercedes that will require a tiny bit of welding and grinding back.
Broadly, a small section of the lip for the boot that the rubber seal sits on has corroded and come away. I’m getting that cut out and new metal welded in but there are also a couple of other areas of surface rust that will get ground back and repainted. All hidden under the new rubber seal that I will be fitting.
I have the colour and lacquer but would welcome advice on primer. Is a simple high zinc rust treating primer the answer or is there anything more sophisticated? I’ve seen lots of recommendations for brands like Bilt Hamber. In the past have used things like Kurust and even Hammerite but I’d imagine the technology has moved on.
Thoughts?
Car is galvanised and otherwise rust free.
