This popped up today. Apparently someone backed into it so my colleague has been ironing out a couple of dents.

I'm sure I remember these being bigger, but it's barely taller than the Mercedes EQC in the background of the last pic smile

My grandmother drove these back in the 1960s and 70s before moving on to a 412 LE Variant and then a...Fiat Uno? We never understood that, but I have good memories of being ferried about in the back of a Type 2 together with a Great Dane, a German Shepherd and a Poodle biggrin

Ooo that's minty fresh! Bet they weren't best pleased when someone backed into it.

Can't get over how cool (no pun intended) the ice cream van is inside and out. Funny how in design terms it's quite similar to the VW.

The photos flatter to deceive, believe me - there's a pit of sorrows hiding under the paint wink The interior is quite nicely done though (apart from front quarter lights that have been sealed shut with window putty) and the mechanical parts seem in good order - it sounds just like it should and the engine is either more modern or has all the right modern improvements fitted to it.

The Electrofreeze just reminds me of my childhood in the UK, breathing diesel fumes while waiting to get a 99 Flake biggrin Ice cream vans were never a thing over here so this certainly has novelty value. The musical parts have been removed from this one though, the noise would be too much for reserved Danes wink

I think the VW was more progressive though - it's crazy to think that the Microbus made its debut in the early 1950s, around the same time as the Bedford CA. I can only imagine the reactions it got from people used to post-war light commercials from Morris and co smile

I hate a mate called Martin that owned one too - he was a "robust" chap and the bike almost disappeared when he sat on it. I had an RD50 at the time. Ah, the memories of two-stroke fumes and skinny-tyre burnouts in the multi storey carpark cloud9
We always said he should have got a DT...would have been more in scale, good fun times. Feel privileged to have grown up in those years smile
Me too! I don't have any problem with modern vehicles at all, EV or ICE - if it has wheels then I love it - but I still get all misty-eyed when I see/smell/hear a two-stroke or an old V8.

Cheers guys smile

Back to work, first job was sorting a couple of Mercedes 300SL rear wheels. Nothing too demanding, but like any old car there are layers of paint and primer. The owner just wants the pitting fixed so there will be one more layer of paint to add to the story smile

Today was considerably less fun...mask and gloves on, using copious amounts of thinners to rid a shed-load of truck parts of any kind of silicone - normal degreaser/surface cleaner isn't always enough. Any painters reading will know that any kind of silicone is anathema to paint shops yikes Nightmare job, and there's more waiting tomorrow.

When everyone got 50s in the fifth year one of my friends got a brand new Fizzy...he was into body building and at 16 he was a shade over 6ft, 16stone with 17inch biceps and all the rest to match. Looked hilarious riding around on it hehe

My brother had an AP50, RD50 then an RD80 in that order. He the had a GT250 X7.

Oooh, the RD80, I'd completely forgotten about the existence of 80cc bikes. Another friend had an MBX80, but I never saw the point in them - most of us went 50->125->250/350->hospital hehe The X7 was something of a beast according to myth, nasty powerband, but I never had the chance to try one.

On the subject of bikes, this tank and mudguard were rusty and badly dented when they came in a while back; it took me way too long to sort them, particularly the tank - dents in tanks are a complete pain to get right but I'm very happy with the result. No "before" photos I'm afraid as I try to keep the bike stuff to a minimum, this being a car forum and all that smile

I'm hoping to get to work on the Fizzie soon as the owner has just delivered the rest of the parts. I'll take photos so let me know if you'd like to see them.

The BMW 320i in all its slightly matte glory smile

I've been slacking with the updates, sorry. I'll do this in bits because of things and stuff.

Let's get started smile

I only work part-time, so this little minx managed to sneak in and get painted while my back was turned. As regular readers will know, I love an Ascona cloud9

My colleague said that it hardly needed prepping so they turned it around in two days...

...to my dismay, because that just left a pile of wheels for me to prep. Grr. I strongly dislike prepping wheels. It's a fiddly and time-consuming job to get right.

Here are a few more pics of the 320i pre-prep. I haven't really been involved with this one unfortunately.

Surface rust in the normal places, but it really isn't that bad given the age of the car and our salty-road winters.

...and who remembers the roof-mounted consoles that BMWs of the time had? I thought they were so space-age when I was younger smile

That's it for now, some FS1E and a little P1800 goodness on the way. See you soon smile

I only have a couple of photos right now, I'll try and grab a couple more on Tuesday (if it's still there).

It's in for some work on the rear three-quarter panels inside and out. What a simply lovely car it is.

A brief aside. We're getting quite a few EV6s in nowadays (can you believe that it was launched nearly four years back? yikes)

I quite like them, but they're quite big. How big? Just a little bigger than they should be hehe
