He's done a clever job. He's combined the A pillar seals with the front roof seal, so moving the front roof seal from the edge of the roof to the top of the windscreen (like modern convertibles). A very modern way if doing it.

Check another guys channel on YouTube - hes done a restoration series on there. He tackles all the normal problems associated with them and details it all very well.
As regards size/height - I'm 6'2" and just fit, any bigger and I would think it's going to be a bit uncomfortable. People remove the sun visor to give you a bit more vision through the top of the screen.
There are actually quite a few differences between the two models but most are cosmetic. You can find them on the LEC forum if you search.
Biggest ones are that later cars had the galvanised rear wishbones. Early ones might be rusted through and are 500 pounds each to replace if you can find them.
Also the earlier ones can hide rust inside the car. The so called 'outriggers' can go crusty. These are actually the inner cills, press firmly inside the carpets and see if you feel or hear it go a bit crunchy.
As has been said the later ones have a cat so lose a bit of power. But are also a lot better on fuel. Some people convert their earlier cars to a closed loop system to improve fuel economy.
