Classics dwarfed by moderns

I don't see any reason why modern cars have to be so large.
The next time you're in your modern car have a look at the amount of space between you and your passenger and between you and the door.
My guess is that almost all cars could be reduced in width by at least six inches without any issues.
Many of our roads were built when cars were much smaller and aren't really suitable now.
And don't get me started on the retards that make 95% of car parking spaces the same dimensions as they were in 1931.
I don't think there's any technical reason why modern cars are so large. It's just consumer demand. If Toyota can make an IQ meet modern safety standards, then Ford could make a Cortina size car today etc.The next time you're in your modern car have a look at the amount of space between you and your passenger and between you and the door.

As to the parking spaces, we should be blaming the size of the vehicles not size of the spaces. Our cars are be growing in size and number, but the land available to park them on is not. The last thing we need is more of the country coated in ugly car parks just because we demand enormous vehicles to go shopping in.
My MINI is dwarved by just about anything parked next to it - even regular superminis. However compared to my TVR it's a sodding truck...
I once parked my old Saab 900 turbo inbetween a Volvo V50 and a Peugeot 307 in a line alongside the street and was left wondering about the current state of car design. OK, so the Saab was slightly lowered and black, but still compared to the 2000s cars that were both supposed to be from a lower/smaller car segment it could as well have been an Elise...

Really does bring it home how big cars weren't and are now.
No pics but couple of observations.
Was in Rome a couple of years ago. I actually managed to see a Fiat 126 parked next to a real Mini. Book ended those were a modern Mini and a new Fiat 500. Did show how times have changed.
Also once parked my MX-5 next to a GT6. Up until then I thought the MX-5 was small!

People are allways suprised when I point out that Dads LWB [109"] Series 2 Land Rover Station Wagon (which I borrow as often as possible) is shorter than a Mondeo estate and tiny compared to a LWB Transit.
Mini's are the best example... especially parked next to their BMW built namesakes.

If I remember correctly the (first) BMW mini had the same track and wheelbase as the original Range Rover.Mini's are the best example... especially parked next to their BMW built namesakes.

Neighbour's Micra, was notably larger than my Mk3 golf
