Adams Probe owner calls for help

Clockwork Orange's Top Gear restoration car needs supporters

One of Top Gear's five restoration projects is the Adams Probe -- the car driven under the lorry by Malcolm McDowell in the 1971 film Clockwork Orange. And owner Colin Feyerabend wants your help in easing the machine to the top of the list for restoration.

Unfortunately, it's in boxes in a cold dark garage and may never see the light again, says Feyerabend, who put out an appeal on the Sports 2000 Racing Car Club Web site. He adds, "With your help it can be saved from this fate and restored to its former glory. The car can then be exhibited at shows for all to admire its stunning, low-slung looks."

If you want to vote to save the Probe, call 09011 110 835 and vote for number 3 as it is the number of votes that will decide the winner. Calls cost 25p and lines close at midnight on the 12th of December.

You can also answer the competition question to win a VIP day at Top Gear: "Which Italian car manufacturer has a prancing horse as its logo". The results and winner will be announced on the 19th of December.

There's more about the car here: www.imps4ever.info/specials/centaur/probe/doodle.html

I'm confused by this one! I only know of an Italian manufacturer with a dancing donkey, no prancing horses....

My Adams Probe 16 is purple, not blue. And it has Whizzwheels! It always was one of my favourites.

I recall seeing the Adams Probe at the Racing Car Show in late 1968 or was it early 1969? It looked quite amazing....

But as the TG restoration project... Hmmm....

Prancing horse? My, that's a tricky one!

Not a bad way of doing it...I wouldn't mind my ears being kept warm and quiet.

Does anybody know what happened to this car?

I take it it didn't get restored?

Does anyone know the whereabouts of it?

A phone number / email address of the guy that owns it would be beneficial....

Cheers

You have to remember the era it came from. Compares well to a Lagonda for instance. One of those cars the once seen never forgotten.

Hi

for anyone interested , the Probe 16 featured on Top Gear has now been fully restored and is lying in Kent. The owner is now embarking on the restoration of a Probe 2001. Comprehensive information on the Adams Bros Probe series is held at www.probe2001.com ...... and if you have further information not already held there we'd be keen to hear from you.

Anyone know who bought the Probe mentioned in this thread that was advertised on ebay ??

cheers

Thanks for posting that link Ewan, I thought they'd all disappeared off the earth years ago. It's pure nostalgia.....

I used to own a Marcos1800, knew Colin Feyerabend back in the 70s and was fascinated by the Probes when they were at the shows. Heck, I even bought a copy of Clockwork Orange just for the durango95 scenes....

Gone looking for more info and see that the Probe 15 has been restored as well. Any more info on that? Last time I saw it on Ebay it was a mess with fabric side windows, but it looks superb now.
