There's a white '73 "L" for sale on Car and Classics. Must have been lying unsold at the back of the dealership for 2 years!

Returning to the earth in Chesterfield

"EL" plate would have been Bournemouth - and almost certainly sold new from Heddle & Deeks (later Chaplegate Porsche and then Porsche Centre Bournemouth). My 9 year old nose would have been pressed against that showroom window when it was new.

One from near me - hasn't moved in 3 years.

Presumably, they'd make slicing the legs of cyclists and pedestrians a bit more certain?

In1970 I was stationed in Germany with BAOR & we were issued with a couple of Minor travellers as Welfare cars ( to take pregnant mums to Hannover hospital etc). A more useless vehicle for German roads can hardly be imagined . They rattled themselves to bits. That winter we had heavy snow for almost three months…
I had to pick up the parents of one of my soldiers (he had been badly injured in an RTA) from the airport late one winter night & was offered one as transport. I used my GT Cortina mk2 on studded tyres instead.
The military often had “run out” cars for staff/welfare use…Standard Ensigns,Zephyr4 Mk3, Hillman Husky, anything no one else wanted usually. Even minis….You could make use of them for rallying if a Rally was deemed “suitable for military training “ Ho Ho👍👍👍. As were many Motoring News events. Made a change from a beaten up Landrover!

Whereabouts was Heddle & Deeks then Dapster? The only dealerships I ever got to go to were James and Keats, who were Vauxhall then Datsun, and originally located behind Blandford railway station when it was still a station, and then Hendy Lennox on Holdenhurst Road.

Recall some had a little plastic prism in them so you could see that the lights were on

Good question - I had to rack my brains and "drive" around Bournemouth on Streetview instead of getting any work done! The original site was on Charminster Road and my memory of 40 years ago, was that it was here: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.7425052,-1.86122...

They then moved to what is now the Tesla showroom https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.7905035,-1.88674... and were rebranded Chaplegate, then Porsche Centre Bournemouth before moving to the mega palace on the Ferndown industrial estate https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.8054661,-1.91771...

An absolute treat for me as a kid would be to visit the aforementioned H&D, then drop in at Majestic Mercedes in Wallisdown (an 80's Merc showroom being a thing of wonder...!) and then, if I had been really good, a stop off at Nigel Mansel Sports Cars in Blandford to drool at Ferraris.

I had a friend in Pimperne so we were often being brusquely ushered off the forecourt of the Nigel Mansell place. But I think it was called something else then, 'Emblem Sportscars' or something like that.

That's depressing and under the moss, it doesn't look too bad. I had a 2002tii in the 1980s, when they were just an old car (sold for about £180 IIRC) and it was a great car, quick, handled, comfortable and felt as solid as a rock.

They were great cars - looked good and performed well. A guy living opposite my parents was a BMW nut and had a 2002ti in the ‘70s, then added a white 2002 Turbo to his garage. I remember drooling over it, with its muscular wheel arches and cool reverse decal on the front spoiler smile Just Googled to see what they’re going for now eek

Ooh, that sounds familiar.

I bought a slightly rotten 2002tii and a 2002A for about £250 back in 1987 - the 2002A was used as a parts car and the tii restored but 10 years later the rot had again got hold of the tii and I sold it for spares or repair. I had even found a spare 4 pot Kugelfischer pump from a Peugeot 505 but I had bought a 635CSi with all the toys and there was night, day, sun, moon and stars difference between them and I smitten with the fabulous E24 shape. Nearly 40 years on and I have a minty M635CSi in my garage...

...and a gently rotting 635CSi on my drive rolleyes

The M635CSi is my all-time favourite BMW, and near enough my all-time favourite car ever! Never had the guts to scratch the itch and get one however; the horror stories of terminal rust etc made me wimp out. I still scan the online classifieds regularly though smile

Brusquely would drive a shabby Bentey Turbo R and have venison hotpot, a brandy and cigar for every meal!
