Isn't that a public highway?

Spotted on a group cycle ride today a
black Volvo 265, Cheshire reg and ending in S,
but not sure they were made in 1978
Looked very forlorn
No photos as I was struggling to keep up

It is, but it's a dead end, east of Gatwick, populated by scrap dealers and metal recyclers. It felt like I'd driven into the nineteen sixties. There were several instances of vehicles parked on the road that really shouldn’t have been. I was reminded of an incident at work in Wembley in the late seventies or early eighties. The works van was stolen and the maintenance lads went out to see if they could find it. They spotted it - a white Escort van with the works sign on the side - on lumps of wood with no wheels and no doors in a gypsy encampment on the common land between Wembley and Kenton. They phoned the Police who said, "We're not going in there." And that was the end of it. It was like that.

Yep, but a four door private hire version. The three door taxi had a metal and glass divider next to the driver and a metal box in the floor where the passenger seat would be.

I was the first kid in my school year to pass his test, October 1985. The second was my mate Ian. His first car was a horrible Mk1 Escort in two-tone yellow over green (don't ask) and with jacked-up rear suspension (again, don't ask). One night, inexplicably, it was stolen from his driveway. He reported it to the Police but they weren't hopeful of ever finding it again.

Two days later I spotted the car neatly parallel parked 20m from my front door, which was a bold move on the part of the thieves as my dad was the village Policeman and we lived in a clearly marked Police house.

I asked my dad what I should do: "Steal it back" he said. I drove round to Ian's house, about 2 miles from mine, he grabbed his keys and we did just that: stole it back. It was undamaged and even the ignition lock was intact enough for Ian's keys to work. He sold it shortly afterwards as it was too much of a target.

Castrol livery? Did he aspire to be the next Roger Clark? hehe

Did Roger Clark drive a brush-painted, rusty, jacked up Escort? In which case, yes, he possibly did smile

Anyway, it was more "Norwich City" than "Castrol", which is odd because this was North Wales.

There was one of those "Police, Camera, Action!" type programmes that showed the cops chasing a stolen Impreza WRX being absolutely nailed down the backroads. Eventually the Subaru turned into a field, it was full of travellers, caravans, other cars, kids playing, people wondering about. The cops followed the scooby in, then chased it behind a caravan to find it rolling slowly forward with the 4 doors opened and no-one inside.... there were about 20 lads standing around (4 of whom must have been in the car). The cops just drove straight back out of the field and called for a recovery truck - no intention of hanging about!

There is an identically "paused" white 205 GTI near me too. I must see if it's still there.

I can't see that being saved as they aren't worth much.

Such a shame as I really liked my 1977 132 1800ES.

We saw a whole convoy of these loonies crossing the channel and in south west England last summer. They looked to be having a great time!

The house these are parked in front of is completely overgrown with weeds and algae. The plot occupies a commanding position on a Bristol city hillside and is probably worth serious money, but the house itself must be a wreck inside.

What are these rusted out shells?
Good Lord are those still there? I used to drive past this house in my GT6 so that’s at least 30 years ago. Thinking about it, they were there well before then. Amazed the place has not been done up yet but it’s a funny part of town. Although the whole city has gone peculiar now.
Yertis, this is the road descending into St. Pauls.

Have you noticed the 'Nice One.' graffiti that has appeared at certain key locations around the city?

I dray for Arbor Ales, one thing I really enjoy about the job aside from the massive amounts of free beer is the chance to explore the city properly. PM me if you want a box or two of beer.

I thought it was all Citroens in that place unless there’s another one! Always kept an eye on the one at the front - genuine bbs split wheels that are worth a pretty penny even in that condition..

Lots of ‘Nice One’ around but even more ‘Jesus Saves’!
I was going to say that the Surf looks like it would probably just start up and drive out - but I checked it online and it is taxed and MOT'd so technically is less abandoned than mine!
