S1 Elise Values
Discussion
Well never posted before I now have two Elise’s S1 I don’t care about values I don’t care about depreciation, the car is built to be driven and that’s what I do, if I lose 10k on a car in 5 years that’s a profit as far as I concerned, sometimes you have to look at real depreciation to Appreciate how rock
Solid Elise prices are - go buy a mclaren or an Aston and then see how quickly you can lose 10k

Can anyone help me with a suitable asking price for the private sale of my S1? Car is 1997, nautilus blue, 60k miles, dyno proven 190bhp K Series, hard top, very clean car I've owned since 2001.
Not sure what the engine does to value. Its a Dave Andrews head, high lift cams, bigger valves etc, forged pistons, Individual throttle bodies and airbox with Emerald ECU. Full exhaust system upgrade from the engine down right to the sports exhaust.
Really don't know what is a fair price!
I see you settled on £16,500. How are you getting on with the sale? Any interest? Cheers. Not sure what the engine does to value. I started this thread as I found the sale of my S1 fat slower than I’d anticipated. I still have my S1 111S. A relatively low volume car with under 20k and everything done. I’ve seen two other 111S on the market in the past few months. Similar miles priced £24-£25k.
A few seasons ago these cars sold at this sort of level. The market still seems flaccid. There’s a lovely S3 Cup in the classifieds at £44k. If I was confident of getting strong money on my S1, I think I’d have that.

Another aspect I would say is new buyers will tend to be family people and any kids in the family makes the Elise a tougher choice as it can only be the additional fun car.
When you look at what other 'fun' cars there are for the prices being advertised for S1s, it is understandable many go elsewhere.
And buying a car that is 20 or so years old is also an off putter methinks, not least when Japanese copies (Mazda) can be bought brand new for the same price.

I take the point about other sports cars being available. The very best Elise S1’s, including under rare GT1 or factory 190, make £25k tops. They start at about £12k so a fair spread.
There is indeed no end of choice at that money if you want a 2 seat sports car and, as said, that £25k sees you into a brand new MX5.
I don’t think anyone considering an S1 is really considering anything else. Certainly not at £15k plus. At that point you have to really want one.
If you want a cheap sports car for some fun you’d have anything from an old Mx5 to a Boxster.
I love how S1’s drive. I keep flirting with the idea of a 220 as air con, cruise and added refinement make it far more viable to go long distance in
But based on driving at the weekend, early on a Sunday when the traffic is light or stealing the odd evening in spring and summer to just drive out somewhere, have a cherry Tizer and drive back, I find myself questioning if a new car would be broadly £20k more fun to drive.
The old car takes some money to make/keep match fit, but it’s not caught in the cruel tractor beam of depreciation either. With a new Elise, albeit rumoured to be expensive, due next year, I’d be jittery a late 220 bought now, even if bought well, is likely to take a residual body blow next year.
Had a drive out in mine today. Sunny but not hot outside. The car is lovely!

Hey Highway,
I am said freind, tawt has just rung me and told me about this, basically I have a sport 160 in titanium silver that I have spent a lot of time making it as original as it can be, the only thing not stock are the dampers being Nitron SS. The wheels have been refurbed, the brakes are all brand new, the roof has been refurbed, the paint is stunning, all the fluids have been changed and the car just looks amazing. I have been thinking of putting it up for sale in a few months, say feb, but you are welcome to ask me anything about it. The chassis has done 63k but everything else is almost new.
cheers!

If that’s the 2017 orange s3 cup it’s been up for sale for a good few months. There was a 2017 grey cup 250 that was on a few months ago, price also started at 44k but slowly dropped as the weeks went by & once it was dropped to 36k it sold. IIrc it only had a couple of k more miles on the clock. A few seasons ago these cars sold at this sort of level. The market still seems flaccid. There’s a lovely S3 Cup in the classifieds at £44k.
