Just wondering if this is normal, as i dont think it is, but when i turn it on it takes about 5minutes to find a satellite signal.

This is always on the open road (not in some underground car park, or in the city)

Is there something wrong with it, its incredibly annoying...

I've got a 910 and it is pretty fast.

It helps on a cold start if you aren't moving. Also, if you switch it on where you last switched it off.

Finally, if you plug it into the PC and use TomTom Home to update with the QuickGPS Fix thing which is updated weekly, the GPS fix time is significantly faster.

Click the bar chart until you get the full page signal strength readout - then you can see how many it has found, where they are, and what the signal strength is.

Usually it needs a good sky 'view' to start, then it will cope with less of a good signal.

The main GPS problem with the 910 is that after too long being switched on it loses track of where it is, and skips around on the map. A re-start is required to clear this. I expect it is a software error with cumulative error tracking causing a numeric overflow.

Another problem is that it does not know the A10 above Ware exists, plus huge sections of the A24 and A7 in Portugal are unmapped, and some of the A28 above Alecon in france is actually a toll road and rather poorly mapped for one large RH curve. I saw on an advert that something called 'map share' is supposed to help this, but having no way to input these missing roads I'm not clear how this can work.

Never being able to set a 'go via' place or road is also annoying, because as soon as you hit the 'via' section the directions go completely beserk and you end up having to type in a straight 'navigate to' route to continue your journey.

The final issue is one of memory size and fragmentation, after a few re-routes with the computer voice and excacerbated by playing an MP3 the voice goes silent as the memory runs out. The computer voice is also strangely quiet often compared to the fixed voices, I expect for a related reason.

In addition, learn where the reset button is and carry a cocktail stick, work on the M23/M25 slip road confused it rather and after a few re-routes (while playing MP3s), mine froze up altogether with a white screen of death and needed resetting. After any USB update you also need to do this.

Plus it's too heavy for it's mount and the connections at the back are a bit feeble.

I like it otherwise though..

I have a heated front screen in my Mundano and the TTOne v2 is fine. Needs plugging into Home every so often to get the Quick fix d/l updated but not had many problems with it

Go to tomtom website to find their help-line number and they will be able to tell you if it is faulty. There is a super-sensitive SIRF STAR 3 GPS receiver inside the device. These are proven to be able to find the signal from up to 10 metres inside a building.
