Hi folks,

I'm looking for a GPS for the UK but I need:

Fixed and mobile camera updates (preferably free)
Traffic warning of hold-ups etc
Rerouting around delays

I'm new to the GPS world and money is constrained due to a young family.

I am interested in the Michelin X970T http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin4/gbr/GPS/... but just wanted to check before I buy one that it covers all the bases I need. Does it for example cover mobile as well as fixed cameras, are they updateable and if so how - via the computer? I note that some seem to need GPRS equipped mobile phone but am confused as to why and whether my Motorola V3 will do the job and at what cost?

I would be really grateful for any info as I need to sort something out very soon due to a long commute to work (M40 106 miles sometimes) and so need to buy something this week.

Many thanks in advance,

Jonathan

A decent summary of relative prices can be found here:

Camera updates can be picked up from pocketgpsworld pretty cheaply but if you spend most of the time on the m-way then I would question if necessary, given that some come with cameras already uploaded.
I'm no expert but would imagine that if you stick to the main players then you shouldn't go too far wrong, unless unlucky. I would imagine that with the 'lesser' players it is a bit more hit & miss. The old man picked up a TomTom 720 (without traffic) for £200 at Christmas. It's a bit more expensive now but from minimal experience so far it seems ok+

How much do you want to spend? The Garmin 660 does all of this and very well in my experience, although the new 700 series looks even better.
