I too hate the council policy of filling the centre of roundabouts with greenery or advertising. Living round Southport, we get a lot of it - prettying the place up to attract the very sort of Numpties who go all the way round the roundabout in the LH lane, or straight-line the thing when you are alongside them!

To PROVE hypocrisy on top of idiocy, Sefton Council announced a crackdown on illegal roadside advertising on the basis that it "distracted drivers" at the same time as putting advertising hoardings in the middle of several roundabouts. What they meant was "its only OK to distract drivers if we get an income from it"

To add to comments about deliberate visibility obstruction, try the roundabouts on the A1 southbound through S.Yorks and Notts. These are fast roundabouts (probably too large diameter?) and you have to virtually stop due to a vertical-board fence to within a few car-lengths of the roundabout. This causes delays as people then wait for gaps big enough to get into. Not helped because most people are unaware you can do more than 10mph in first gear - I do not advocate pushing out into dangerously small gaps, but most cars will do 0-40mph quite quickly if you actually DRIVE them (and I do not just mean TVR's - I have driven my share of smaller engined cars!).

Why do we need traffic lights on a round a bout?
Some near me on the M6 junctions are permanently ON. Most of the time you go around hit red lights go, hit red lights, go hit red lights....One day you eventually come off the roundabout and then BOOT It big time.. just out of frustration ....just to say Bolx to you, you stupid, idiot, road plannning officers.. you have no concept of the human spirit, how people think...the more you design ways to control me the more I will rebel.. and I will not let you suck the life out of me....I'm free...
