Lost an auction for an E Class yesterday so figured I'd call in to this place on my way up north as it's on the side of the A1 and I'm partial to an S60. It's full of old Volvos. Saw what I assume to be the owner but didn't speak to him. Does anyone know much about this place? Its a bit rough and ready. Would anyone vouch for them?

Quite a bit.

Old man lake was something of a legend. Try to haggle on a part and he'd rather chuck it in the river than sell it to you. A legendary arse of the type they don't make anymore.

AFAIK it is now run by...I think...His son in law. You might expect him to be an enthusiast and a romantic but he's not. In any way. He thinks the beards are sad anoraks, albeit ones that keep him under a roof.

I think they're easier to deal with now than 20 years back, but I'd be prepared to come away with an anecdote or two!!

That's them. The man I saw was about 60, white beard. Imagined they'd be eccentric and quite passionate about what they do, it's a real shame if that's not the case. Probably good that I didn't approach him.

Looks considerably worse in real life than it does in the pictures.

They had a few cars price marked but nothing I wanted so I left.

Yepp have been in there a few times whilst getting spares for my dads '97 V70R! Never really had a problem and the old guy was more than happy to let me go around the back and remove some bits I needed from the old V70s and 850s parked around the back!

Just have a bit of banter, if his dog is still there make a fuss of it, big old labrador thing! The old guy seems okay and I've never really had a problem there! smile

There's an interesting video on YouTube by the youtuber Geoff Buys Cars which shows the scale and state of the place.

A proper old school breakers, that looks like the site will be sold soon as the owner is retiring.

Back in 1992/93 a mate of mine bought a Volvo from them. The father of the current owner was running it then. A very eccentric old boy. My mate paid in cash for the car, and the old boy pulled out a wad of notes inches think, and added my mates notes to the wad.
He then told us that if anyone tried to rob him he cut their arms off, and proceeded to pull a 3 foot sword from under the counter and started waving it around!

Bonkers experience...the car turned out to be a good buy though.
