I have a Gocheer airbrush kit from Amazon. It's my first airbrush. It's about £50 currently, can't remember what I paid for it but it was probably £60. I was also looking at starting airbrushing with one of the single action budget kits such as the Humbrol one but after reading up online and talking to modelling friends decided to stretch a little bit (not by as much as everyone recommended though!) to get a double action airbrush kit that came with a compressor.

My painting booth is a large cardboard box that's been hacked and modified to make booth. it's portable at least and thus far has survived longer than I expected it too - getting on for a year now!

Struggle with detail work but have no experience with other airbrushes to tell how much of that is the brush and how much is me.

It's giving me results that I'm happy with at least.

For protection, in summer I tend to paint outside. I also have a mask but don't know how much good it does. I use mostly enamels so it can get smelly!

When I made this contraption, I used a couple of wooden rods flexibly mounted to the lid (electrical tape and staples) to use as props to hold the lid up when in use. Unfortunately when I then try close it, gravity keeps the props straight down and they hit the floor of the booth before the lid is closed, so I had to fashion brackets for them to sit in while closing the box. I fashioned those brackets and the handle to hold the lid closed from surplus cardboard that I'd cut from the box itself...

When open, the props sit in coke bottle tops with slots cut into them so they can be hooked onto the tops of the sidewalls.

I also wanted flexible protection on the sides when the lid is open, and that had to be flexible and translucent at least so the box didn't get too dark. I used a dustbin bag for that. And more staples.

It really is an hilariously homemade box of optimism over talent but it's served me very well for nearly a year now! It's nice because when I've finished spraying I can just close the box easily and protect the models while they dry.
