I’ve been let down a bit today by the courier, I was expecting a new big prop for it. I’ll be firing it up later for a ‘rich’ low rev tank-full.
Ear plugs in, big leather glove (yeah it can bite).
My poor neighbours !
That's not the way to run in ABC engines (assuming its ABC?) It looks it in this pic, certainly not ringed.Ear plugs in, big leather glove (yeah it can bite).

Short runs, rich but not far off of full revs, after 10 minutes of 1 minute runs, fly it.
OS certainly don’t brand their engines this way now. What was it A - Aluminium piston, B - brass ring, C - chrome liner?
I missed a step in the dance here, I did two initial runs following OEM instructions on Friday night. I always follow OEM as they know best. Essentially the first two tank fulls were full throttle for 10 seconds rich, (4stroke motion) then 10 seconds leaner at (2 stroke motion) and keep repeating till it runs out of fuel. OS then state it’s fit to fly but ‘avoid nose up’.
I like to get at least 5 tank fulls through before flying it. I like to run it a mixture of lean and rich through the rev range. Set up a nice tick-over and throttle cut position. Etc.
There’s is a lot to go wrong after all. And anything can with an RC aircraft check and double check all the time. I want a certain degree of confidence in my first flight after a fundamental change around what makes it fly.
And it was proven today, yesterday I was having really poor throttle response. I could see the barrel sliding in the carb, so I knew it wasn’t a servo issue. I figured a block in the carburettor.
I’ve just had two hours working on it, yes, the throttle servo was dropping out, and all the the others! Turns out it was an intermittent fault on the on/off switch for the nicad to the receiver.
Thank goodness I found that on the ground! I’ve praised Futaba earlier in this thread. A very rare failure and not one you’d expect.
Ground running can be hazardous to the engine as it not properly cooled & getting it to temp quick is fundamental.
Scary with the on/off switch, sure its free to move fully over the travel?
Futaba every one feels better about but its still made in China.
Evening folks.
A few days of progress!
I’ve managed to hang the the massive prop on the Acro.
The weather has been bloody awful here in the lakes for the last few weeks, it seriously disrupts flying which is a big miss .
I really want to get out with the AcroWot with its new engine. The Mirus with its shifted balance point.
And of course the Spitfire.
In the mean. I think I’ve worked out posting videos to you tube

Morning folks!
This was a close shave back in May.
Still trying to get my head around this YouTube malarkey. I’ve only got an old I phone to work off.

My apologies folks I’ve not updated this week.
Life, work and more often this awful bloody weather gets in the way - apart from the last few days and going forward.
I’m so sorry I’ve given you a bum steer about YouTube videos - I’ve still not worked that out. Bottom of the list.
Me and my buddy got out last night and it was fantastic. We both know we are running out of evenings and time. We’ve not flown for over a month. My god it’s been a s
tty English summer.
A fantastic night. Scrambling against the sun going d Dr own. Both of us left our phones in the cars . So no photos.
The Acro Wot with its big lump and massive prop totally changed characteristics. Similar the Mirus.
Totally different aircraft to fly once you change a few things . Around the CofG
Maybe some pilots read this thread .
I must admit I’m flying by the seat of my pants.
It’s nice to get them both home in one piece.
Enjoy your weekend folks

Hello folks!
Apologies for no updates of late, not much flying for weeks due to this appalling summer we have had. However, me and my buddy stole an absolutely beauty Thursday last.
Spitfire Night.
My buddy hadn’t flown his since 2005. It was a bit of a race against time with the nights drawing in. But all went extremely well! Engines fired up in no time and we were off!
My buddy’s Spit is running an 32 OS on Radio gear from the early 80’s - go figure! It’s the old 35 MHz stuff.

I do apologise I’ve not got my YouTube sorted yet. I’ve just been so busy. I have two weeks holiday coming up abroad away from everything so it should give me time to sort out.
Even writing this is pinching half an hour.
Enjoy your weekend folks.
Spitfire night was a grand one indeed!

trying to figure out wiring and other stuff with hellraiser !
Get it done ! yes foamy jets are a great way to get into turbines - feels like going solo again - so nervous the get into the swing of it
they are just so much less hassle that glo or petrol. charge are the batteries - fill with paraffin - full up trim, full up throttle pull back down and it starts

I posted previously about getting back in to the hobby and had purchased a new radio set with a view to building a plane; a friend’s dad passed away recently and he was a keen aero modeller in years gone by (I used to serve him when I worked in the model shop 35 years ago). I had a look over his old kit in the loft and found this Flair Puppeteer (pretty sure it is) with an OS 48 Surpass four stroke. I remember back in the day this was a great combination, and the OS was a superb engine.
I can’t wait to get it flying although that will have to wait as I made a half decent attempt at cutting off my finger with a grinder last week and had to undergo surgery so it will be a while I am back up to full strength!

Thanks Jim. I went back to my friend’s dad’s house last night to collect a few more airframes. One of them (a Flair Fokker DVII) has a Laser 70 four strike in it, which I plan to use in sport model (Wot 4 or Acro Wot). Laser engines were quite niche back in the day, and from what I remembered they weren’t as powerful as the equivalent OS FS but sounded good (I could be mistaken on this). I also have a model of Lysander with another OS 48 FS, but I think I will use the engine in something else in the future as I suspect it won’t be great flyer as it is so heavy given then wing area. There is another WW1 model with a OS 40 FP, which was one of the most common engines we sold back in the day to beginners (the DB Mascot was the local clubs favourite). It’s nice to be back in the hobby, and I can’t wait to get back in the air.

I mentioned a couple of months back I'd purchased an Acrowot that I had had previously as a kid. Anyway have space in my suitcase this time round and opened the box just to check, and this is the Wots Wot - so looks like I'm taking that back state-side and building that instead!

I've got one of those in the loft somewhere. The thing is, I don't ever remember flying it.Edited by DIW35 on Saturday 14th December 20:51
Good afternoon all.
I hope you are enjoying the build up to the festive season? My model aircraft activity has been on hold recently. Then, yesterday I went into my ‘Hangar’ and thought it would be good to post up something. And ultimately fix my YouTube videos which had totally fallen on the back-burner for way too long.
I sent this to my brother before and he can see it. Please report back if you can’t.

Afternoon folks.
This Is some footage of the electric Ruckus, a real fun model you can pick up by the scruff of the neck and throw about. Really light, yet extremely durable and very rewarding to fly/
