I could forgive the reliability if the dealers were better.

My Clio Trophy failed its first MOT at an Indy garage just after its service at a Renault dealer. The rear brake pads were shagged.

Apparently, checking the brake pads is not part of the service.

But checking the front dampers is, declaring them also shagged, deciding they aren't covered by the warranty and quoting me £3,000 to replace them is.
Wife had one that passed 4yr MOT at local garage then I took it for service at the dealer. They found both rear springs snapped. Amazingly clean and shiny breaks too.

It's entirely the dealers why I quit them despite only knowing French cars until I was 34. I don't miss them at all.
Yes, it does seem like it's a dealer issue. I've not owned one but always trying to help friends and family to deal with them.

Renault make stylish cars and the sportier Meganes are the rave but the dealers are a nightmare which is why I've stayed away.

Is there a time limit on the aux belt ? on the D5 volvo lump they reduced the life of the belt and tensioners to 54k as they were breaking and taking the engine with them. Is it the belt thats failing or is it the compressor thats spitting the belt off ?
6yrs or 75k I think for the belts.
Cambelt is 72k or 5 years on the F4R IIRC, aux belt is 36k/3 years.

K-TEC use this schedule:

Yes I know it's not Renault but I really can't be arsed to try to find it on their (or one of the dealers) website.

OP, believe me your Renault was perfect ... because they are supposed to be as bad as that!

That's my conclusion anyway, now that I'm maintaining a Clio for a family member.

Renaults do look good cosmetically (to me) inside and out, but that's where they've spent the money, cosmetics, gimmicks and dynamics.
Not so good on ergonomics, economics and mechanics - everything I touch seems fragile. We have indeed had our fair share of problems.

I can only guess that people who routinely buy these things haven't had anything else, and they must think all cars are as bad as that. Personal opinions of course ....
