Hi everyone, I’ve got a 106 quicksilver but I want to get more power while keeping the 1.4 engine. I’ve heard about swapping the cylinder head for a rallye head, if anyone could provide more information on this swap that would be great. Any other ideas how I make the 1.4 more powerful would be appreciated.
Thanks

Just swapping the head will probably achieve nothing. If you want more power from that little TU engine it needs to be carried out properly. Head, valves, camshaft, exhaust,ECU etc. Then when you have more power will the rest of the engine take it? its an old engine with a few miles on the clock I bet. Not forgetting the brakes and suspension.

The best guys for tuning old Peugeot engines are http://www.skipbrowncars.com/ have a word with them.

Mind you your best bet is to replace the whole car with a 106 GTi, then you will have power and fun.

Absolutely pointless. Just buy a different car. You will throw hundreds at it and the only think that may get better is the noise.

It is a 106 Quiksilver.

As said, waste of money, buy a faster car.

I suspect this chap might be a young lad with not much dosh.

assuming your quicksilver is in good condition - i.e. no rust then in order to make your car faster, you could do some or all of the following:

16v engine transplant
throttle bodies
cams
zorst
air filter/inlet
206 gti 180 big brake kit
s1 rally or xsi gearbox
uprated rear torsion bars
uprated front springs
standalone ecu
.

lots to do, lots of money. Head over to the 106 rallye Facebook page for more info.

Short of removing as much weight as you can (interior, sound deadening, spare wheel, rear wiper etc) or changing the engine, you're wasting your time.

I’m amazed there’s any of these Quiksilvers left - weren’t many made and I’d have thought they’d be long gone by now.
Bought one brand new in 1997

Bought a 106 Gti about a year later...

Sorry - no help to the OP

Hi Old Merc!

Where did you get that photo of David Higgins 106 Rallye? Fabulous pic... and the only one that shows up online with the MAN106A registration number.

I took it myself, along with loads of others. I`m "Autocare" and prepared that car for David and Mike Park. I also prepared their 205GTI in the Peugeot GTI rally championship.

Happy memories.

that's interesting, by the look of that photo, the group A 1300 Rallye ran the standard inlet? What kind of power were you getting. (I have an s2 Rallye that I race, this also runs the s1 inlet)

for the rest of you, Old Merc really should be treated on here with the upmost respect, not only does he know his way around a Peugeot ( and I dare say could provide some tuning advice) he has also assisted at least two drivers to become professionals in rallying. one of whom made it all the way to the top!

these kind of people who do a a lot of this stuff out of the goodness or their heart, are hard to come by in motorsport.

thanks Old Merc!

I retired from rallying at the end of that year with the 106 ( 1994 ). That car belonged to Peugeot Sport, our team found the money then prepared and ran it for them in the 1994 British Rally Championship. It should have been a full Group A car but due to the lack of parts from Peugeot it was half Group N. The engine was built by Ravic. We had lots of problems, had a very poor year.

Guys I`m so flattered by all those nice words. Remember I was a team member, the others did the same as me.
By the way, the other fully restored Autocare Peugeot 205GTI is at Goodwood Speed Week this coming w/end. There will be free live TV streaming and also its on ITV4.
