I have a Peugeot 208 GTI on a 18 plate.

The exhaust tone between 70 - 80 mph makes a droning sound in the cabin which after a while can be quite annoying. The exhaust tone is great when going up and down the gears, particularly when making progress. If I sit at 50 mph in 5th or 6th gear the sound there is no droning sound.

I have had the car from new and no modifications have been put onto any part of the car.

Does anybody know if this is a design problem on the GTI? Or may there be a fault on my car?

Note, it has done this from new.

Fairly sure that's just how they are from the factory due to the design of the silencing setup. Fairly sure the later / ByPS models came minus a centre silencer, so with a straight pipe under the car the drone is the side effect the further you push past 70.

Thank you for the reply.

Not sure why PSA would do that as people can spend hours travelling at the national speed limit.

I'll ask my local pug dealer next time I'm passing.

Mine was the same - about the only negative thing I can say about the car!

It is the harmonics of the set up. I had the pleasure of 6 months in an RS2 as my pal had a totting up ban. Cost me a fortune in fuel!
At certain revs the exhaust (bespoke) would howl like a banshee. Almost sounded like a low note on a mouth organ.

At least I know nothing is wrong with my car, but im not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing now.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Like i said its the drooning at 70-80 mph which is annoying, the rest is great.

Do 69 or 81? I prefer 69 myself. That way everybody is happy.
