The 6 pack CD player on my 2007 car isn't working.

The error message is - The current audio cd is defective

I've tried cleaning the unit with a cd cleaning disc, but no success.

Grateful for any solutions.

Thanks!

It’s very easy to pull out the CD changer from the glovebox using two of these:

You can undo four torx screws and lift the lid of the changer to see if anything looks awry, but there's probably little else you can do other than blast air through the mechanism to remove any dust.

The six CD changer is made by Sony, and looks identical to the standard VW units, which are available on Ebay for around £30, so you may be able to swap or cannibalise.

Unfortunately the connector is different, although my guess is that with a bit of ingenuity and studying the circuit diagrams it would be possible to swap over the appropriate wires between connector shells.

On the Bentley there are 10 connections in a 12 way plug:

1 Data Input
2 Data Clock Input
3 Ground
4 Data Output
6 Power
7 LH Audio Output
8 Control Input
9 Audio Ground
10 RH Audio Output
12 Illumination

I suspect that a bit of Googling will provide you with the equivalent pin map for a generic VW so that you can simply swap the appropriate wires.

That of course presupposes that Bentley weren't so devious as to implement a different communication protocol between the head unit and the changer, but do we really think that they would have done..?

Thanks!

I've found out that Halfords stock release tools. Hopefully they'll do the job.

Actually I think that these are the correct ones:

Or, if you're in no hurry, these are half the price:

Thanks!
Picked them up this afternoon and they were the right ones.
Unfortunately despite light use of cotton bud to clean the lens still no joy :-(

You can buy a adapter plug to connect to the CD feed ( unplug the busted thing ) so an iPod fits .
That way have hundreds of tunes from I tunes .
The I pod sits in a wallet attached to the Velcro in the glove box.

CD buttons turn into iPod and you can group the pods stuff into 6 .
On the screen list them ,etc etc

Do you know whether the CD Changer should provide details of artist/album/song? Mine doesn't yet the single CD player does.

No, sorry, I don't have an ICD for the CD changer to ZAB interface. There may be somewhere on the web, but I doubt it.

I've fitted a Grom device with iPod interface in place of my CD changer, but unhelpfully I can't remember what level of detail it displays.

Equally unhelpfully is that my car can't display anything at the moment, whilst I install an Android head unit, so I can't check for you.
