What is my Mini - confused! HLS?

Hi Guys,

I'm a new Mini owner having come across a car that had been in a barn for 8 years. Its a lovely little car registered in 1999 but I'm having some trouble identifying it; can anyone help?

Its a 1.3 high compression engine from a cooper, but it doesnt seem to be a cooper.. It has a walnut dash, a full length electric sunroof, full leather, chrome dials etc etc etc... I've decoded the vin and one of the numbers denotes the model as Mayfair or HLS - I cant seem to find any info on an HLS and they didnt seem to produce a mayfair at that point.

Any help appreciated. It needs some money spending on it (rust surprisingly) but before i get stuck into spending a fortune I'd like to know what it is.

Some pictures would certainly be a help, as would some basic details such as the colour of the exterior, trim and upholstery. Style of wheels and grille, any body decals? These are all things which would help identify the model or limited edition of a Mpi Minis. Everything you've listed was an optional extra on every model, but it's certainly not a Mayfair of HLS. As standard, the Mpi came as either a 1.3i or a Cooper 1.3i with quite a few having the optional Sports pack. If yours isn't a Cooper, it's probably just a standard 1.3i with a lot of extras.
