Whats on the shortlist?

How did you find the Clubman? Was it a new model one or the older model?
Depends on what day of the week it is ...

Either its a cheap day to day estate car (sub £1500) and something like a Focus RS Mk2 or Mk3 now that they are 20k

or a newer estate such as a 7k E350 and a classic Ford such as XR2 or Mk3 Escort, something I can just play about with.

Mines the R55, i've love it, i have owned it coming up for 7 years but i'm spending more time in a £700 Mondeo diesel estate. The ride is fine, it has enough performance and still feels like a Mini, we also have an F57, that is more like a BMW, its quicker but the exhaust sounds a little fake and the steering isn't as good.

I do like the F54 clubman and had considered one but its very similar to the F57 but it doesn't quite have the space of the Mondeo, both parents are getting older and i just feel something a little larger would help getting in and out.

Changed the air filter and plugs on the F57, new cam position sensor on the R55.

New windscreen on the F57 too, if you have an F56 based car i strongly suggest you clean the scuttle panels out.

Replaced the OSR bulb holder assembly in the rear light, I was getting a bulb failure warning for the indicator whereby the indicator wouldn't work for the first flash but would join in after that. Turned out the pin for the indicator circuit wiring in the plug socket had broken at some point and it was arcing between what was left in the socket and the other part stuck in the plug. eek

I opened up the plug and carefully pushed all of the connectors out, and was able to get a tiny screwdriver in to push the remains of the pin out. Reassembled and it works as intended now. I'm not sure if there was maybe some water ingress at some point but it all looked dry otherwise.

renewed the insurance on the clubby, nice to see you can get cheap quotes online for modded cars these days, always hated dealing with Flux, so new deal is £170 cheaper than Flux's renewal & I get a fluffy Oleg :-)

Been working through the to-do list on the clubby since I have bought it. So far its had the following over the last few months:

Lowered on 30mm springs
Replacement bonnet
Changed alloys from 17" to 16"
Full Service (Oil, Filters, Plugs)
Coolant change
Replacement rear brake callipers
New ARB, and Lower control arm bushing
Replacement flexi hose on the exhaust

Just ordered a Cobra decat which hopefully can be fitted over the next few weeks. Got a fuel filter to replace as well.

Was supposed to be a cheap car to do, but keep finding ways to spend money on it.

Changed the horrible RFT tyres for a set of new 205/45/17 Uniroyal Rainsport 5 tyres... so far so go and much less harsh than before.

Currently running 32 PSI all round - anyone else care to comment on what pressures you're running on non-RFTs of the same size please?
Thinking of lowering the rear pressures a little given the lack of weight back there.

Car is a 2008 FJCW.

I've finally completed my dechrome on the Mini. Recently did the door handles/fuel cap, and I swapped the side indicators to black to complete it.

Did you tape the belt line, or replace ala new Paddy Hopkirk limited edition factory fit parts?

I taped up my R58. Luckily it is lasting well. I also put the black line side repeater lenses on - they are not as dark as yours perhaps?, sprayed the chrome surrounds black, black door handles, black light surrounds and black front grille surrounds.

Q. "How much more black could it be?"
A. "None more black"
biggrin

I taped the beltline back in 2018 and it is lasting well to be fair. I purchased black covers for the door handles/fuel cap. Front and rear light surrounds/front grill are black OEM replacements. The chrome strip on the front grill was another black cover.

The only chrome left on it are the MINI badges front/rear and the Cooper S badge. I'm going to leave those though...unless I change my mind going forward! smile

Forgot - I did black Mini badge covers too, but left the original silver JCW ones.

You know you want black badges. The voices will make you do it in the end. Resistance is futile biggrin

Some subtle mods, red beltline and mirror caps, red lines around side repeaters which are dark Audi style, and front and rear lights. Union jack rear lights, and blacked out the bonnet and boot mini wings with red gel inserts..

I got my belt line and door handle covers from killallchrome, as well as the black badge covers. Very happy wirh them. Doing the belt line took a little time and effort ro get perfect.

With the F56 you now have the option of OEM Mini black belt line parts and door handles (though likely a more expensive route).
