HELP Mini Autobox replacement

Hello Mini people,
I'm after some help please.
A friend of mine has just been told the automatic (standard auto I think) gearbox needs replacing on her mini cooper (52 plate) to the tune of four grand. She is absolutely gutted as the car is her pride and joy and it now looks like she will have to sell it.
Does anyone know of a decent independent in the north west who may be able to swap the box for considerably less?

Any hints tips pointers links etc very gratefully appreciated

Turns out she's getting it done on goodwill (cars only done 26k miles), so happy ending!
Certainly upped my opinion of BMW/Mini

My dad's got LOADS of stuff on that goodwill thingy with his 3 series. Certainly kept him happy... seeing as he's pre-orded one of the new coupes!
