New Cooper - mpg?
Discussion
my first week in an 06 cooper is returning around 36/37mpg which is what I would expect for a 1.6 petrol. Driving a 20 odd miles to and from work on A/B roads, then did a long hop motorway yesterday. Admittedly, it's a world away from published figures.
If I wanted more than 40 I would have gone diesel, but taking into the cost difference and my annual mileage didn't warrant it

I have a R56 petrol Cooper with efficient dynamics and is doing about 40mpg round town. Huge improvement over my old R50 Cooper. Also I found the consumption has improved lots since I have started to put some miles on it.
Also dont forget the R56 has a 40 litre tank over the R50's 50 litre tank.

Update on my R56 Cooper - 5,500 kms on it now, returning 16 kms to the litre (board computer says 6.2 l/100 km which is pretty accurate) ATM - still some way off the 18.5 km/l EU cycle average but give that the same board computer displays 84.7 km/h as average speed (including rush hour motorway commuting), maybe not so surprising.
Chuffed to bits with the car actually - had some reservations about the R56 beforehand, but it's lovely.

My R56 Cooper S (with stop-start) is loosening up nicely with miles but I'd have to grow a lot more self-control to get near the figures some of you guys are getting.
Realistic average for my day-to-day driving (sitting in traffic around Carlisle with occasional country road hooning) is about 31-32mpg, although it does increase to >40mpg on the motorway at sensible speeds. I'm pretty happy because TBH that's exactly the same as I was getting out of my old R50 One which only had a little more than half the power!
