Hi guys, my mate was doing my brakepads today on my 03 Cooper. Done two fronts and nearside rear, text me saying there was a problem and the offside rear brake caliper had seized (He doesn't have time to do it just done my pads as a favour)

when I picked my car up from his work place I drove about 2 miles to my house and noticed there was a horrible burning smell coming from the offside rear. Also when i tryed to reverse there was a lot of resistance in the wheel turning. Not good!

Anyway, has anyone experienced this or similar or could give me a rough price on a new caliper being fitted? cars not going to the garage untill Wednesday and i've been advised not to drive untill then. Gutted!

New caliper from BMW is £170 but depends what the garage is like, should be able to service the caliper and clean up the guide pins for a lot less.

Mine was the same when I first got it, just needed a bit of TLC on the caliper. It's been fine ever since.
