Fascinated by the lift that Parkrun gives, I started running in late Jan after 5 years off, my first 5k was Feb 11th and I'm running twice a week (other than PR) at the moment, one quickish 4k and a longer slow one (roughly 7k so far).

Not a chance in hell I'd be anywhere near 28 minutes if I went out on my own...

I guess the gains will slow dramatically now, but I think if I had really pressed I could have squeezed under 28 this week (just!)

Well done. That is great progress.

I was pleased to do my 69th run at Fountains Abbey today. It was looking lovely with the spring snowdrops out.

That's great going.

As I posted before I have restarted after a couple of years off.

Started at mid 33 mins and went about 50 seconds a week faster for the next two weeks. If I had kept that up I would have beaten my first ever parkrun time which doesn't sound great but I'm five years older and about 7kg heavier so I'd take it. I think I would have made it too but for my lace coming undone almost at the start. Managed almost two (of three and bit) laps but eventually my shoe was becoming too loose. Stopped and tied it up with cold numb fingers but it came undone again before the finish. Still a bit faster than last week so still reasonably happy.

20 minute pacer this morning. Difficult to pace as loads of trees prevent the watch from giving an accurate pace. Came in 19.46, not great but live and learn.

Fountains Abbey is a lovely course, you lucky thing. I had run #70 along Aberdeen beach, and then did another 6km to meet my marathon training target distance.

I followed the 24 minute pacer a few weeks back at a local parkrun, they should’ve averaged about 4:40/km but their last km was 5:15 to get close to 24 minutes… Did wonder why I struggled to keep up!
Last week another run had pacers, again I was trying for 24 but after 800m the 22, 23 and 24 minute pacers were all next to each other!

I shouldn’t moan really as I know It’s not an easy thing to do so 14 seconds it isn’t anything to worry about.

We probably have been there at the same time, I've done 28 runs there so far... working towards 100 at harrogate.

Good to hear! My PB is in the 24s but I was early 30s rather than early 40s so I'm not entirely sure if that's in reach, will keep trying though.

It's funny who you are running with.

By chance I ended up looking at the results for #8 at Fountains which was my first run there. On the day I didn't know anyone but looking at them now there are at least 5 people who volunteer at my junior event regularly. A few others I know by name and someone I'm going to Norway with in May for the extra day.

I did Bushy Parkrun this weekend.

Was brilliant, never been there before but beautiful park. 1200 runners and a single 5km loop.

Got back under 30 minutes after a break from running. Aiming to get back to 23-24 minutes eventually.

Fountains Abbey looks lovely. I planned to visit last year (I’m from Kent, but was staying in Ripon), but Her Majesty’s death meant that it was cancelled. Another time. I ended up running at Connyingham Hall.

100% attendance so far this year, but all at my ‘home’ event.

I was at the Tetbury Goods Shed run on Saturday, which is on the south side of the Cotswolds. I'd not been to Tetbury before but it's a really beautiful town. An interesting run too with an out-and-back course including two laps up and down a hill in the middle. I run downhill like a wimp and the same guy came barreling past me on the downhill both laps as if he was running on flat ground. Fair play that man...

The got me the Tourist achievement on the 5k app for attending 20 different runs. Still haven't achieve my aim of going to every run I Gloucestershire. There are 18 in the county and i think I've got 4 of 5 left including the Severn Bridge ParkRun, which looks great!

As for pace running, I've been complimented for my excellent pace running in the past except I wasn't pacerunner. I was just wearing an old team shirt with '22' on the back and ran a time within one or two seconds of 22mins. I hadn't thought for a moment that it might cause confusion. Safe to say, I don't wear that shirt anymore.

I'd never thought of it before but for the local parkrun's 250th the theme was to wear green. The only suitable thing I had was my sons football shirt. It just about fitted ok, anyone who was looking at the number as a pacer would have been sadly disappointed

Nice blog about national park parkruns. I’ve done 7 of the 10 mentioned. The others sound great. smile

Did you manage to bag Fire Service College parkrun before it closed?

No, unfortunately not. It's a bit gutting as it would have got the 5k app achievement for running a ParkRun that's now closed, which is always going to be a tricky one. I see it's been replaced by the Woolford Wood run, which is just outside of Gloucestershire. To be sure, I've checked it via my company's digital mapping software and it's 176 metres outside the county boundary at the closest point.

I think my next one will be the Berkeley Green run on the site of the now decommissioned Berkeley nuclear power station adjacent to the River Severn. I've been putting it off as according to the course page, the route of the run crosses the entrance to the car park so once you've finished, you have to wait for the run to end before you can drive home. Safe to say there's no alternative but to drive there, as you might imagine for a nuclear power station site. On the off chance someone has done that run, I'd be interested to know if you do have to wait or whether you can sneak out more promptly....

I always go straight home, which isn't very bright for the runs that I drive to. Stop running, walk to straight car and sit still for an hour driving home is a sure way for everything to seize up nicely...
