We’ve camped for years at Club Valan for the 24 hours. Very conveniently located outside the entrance to Le Mans airport. Unfortunately, the people running it have retired and the new owners have pulled out.

There is a campsite that is located next to ours - again, just after the exit to the airport.

Worth a punt..... does anyone know the name of the site/operators? Much appreciated in advance if anyone knows. If not, we will have to start a search for a new home

No problem..... it’s run by the airport. 30 euros per night for 2 people on a pay as you go. It’s secure and there is a fab eatery that is set up next door where we’ve grabbed some lunch once back from the GBW. As mentioned, we stayed for years at Club Valan and 5 years ago they introduced the free bus shuttle that started from the site and dropped us at the entrance to the circuit. It was only a 20 minute walk into the centre of Arnage as well.

I have the contact details of the airport person if that helps anyone.

However, we’ve opted for the Village on the Curves this year. A change of scene to be based on track and still an easy amble into Arnage on the D92 (where we usually head on Thursday and Friday at some point). I can take or leave Le Mans centre on a Friday, but Arnage is always a must visit as we catch up with lots of people. Never done Friday night at the circuit though, so that might be an option if recommended?

Hiya GBF,

Yes I've been with Club Valan also for the last 5 years. (solo in the Defender/California). I didn't know the new crew had pulled out!
I'm homeless now. Leave booked and Chunnel too. Better get a shake on for new digs.
Do you have please the contact details of the pitch over the other side of the fence at the airport.
That pitch is ideal for me, again because I can cycle to Arnage in 10 mins
Do you post here with contact or via email. I wonder what will happen to the Valan pitch?

Cheers Alan

No worries.....

Email Laurence Chaize on lchaize@lemans.cci.fr. He’s the contact at the airport. You can’t beat 30 euros per night for 2 people and a pitch. I’d have been happy to stay here too, but we fancied a change of scene, and Arnage centre looks to be about the same walk from village on the curves compared to club valan.

Shame it’s come to an end..... there were plenty of people I talked to who had stayed at Valan for years and years, and who will now need a new home.

I remember your defender as well!

thanks..

Is that an Capital I for the start of the email address? I only ask because the chap is Laurence, just confirming.

Following on from your enquiries I too have contacted VOTC, and in comms with Joy from them. I'm curious about their set-up. Like the screen and marquee etc. Availability to purchase a beer and a spot of grub also looks good.

At the airport you mentioned, you found a good foody place, where was that please.

Cheers GBF for your help.

Making my mind up this weekend, cheers Alan

No worries,

It’s a small ‘l’

The eatery is right outside the airport entrance. It was their first year, but they will be there again. It was all fresh cooked/prepared local produce, beer and cheeses. We popped in after coming back from the GBW. The lunch was lovely and lined the stomach nicely ahead of the walk to Arnage.

village on the curves looks good. We are not taking the food package, but the prospect of private viewing, cheap quality beer and hot showers is too good to pass up. Le Mans circuit village is a short walk, as is Arnage, and we are well placed for a night shift stint at Arnage/Indianapolis (my favourite part of the circuit)

And a screen for the race duration is a bonus too!

GBF,

your fact finding is ace for me, ta.
Now I'm having to think about the pitch at the airport and new foody outlet or a new experience too at VOTC.
The airport is cheaper, but has no 'atmos', especially with the Valan clubhouse going. But the VOTC has the in track experience and seems to be along the same model as Club Valan.
I'm after some access to a phone charging point as well.

When the circuit is 'in race mode', how do you get out from the camping at VOTC and get to Arnage etc.

Cheers Al

Not 100% sure.
From memory, in 2017 the Land train stopped at the curves before heading up to Arnage/Indy
We do what we always do, go with the flow and we usually end up where we need to be. There will be plenty of people at the village who will help if you ask.

You can go through Beausejour or use the pedestrian access which comes out just before the bridge. VOTC also runs an two free minibus services from the site exclusive to clients on a half hourly service which drops at the technopark roundabout for access to the pits and also the tram station roundabout.which gives access not only to the trams but to Tertre Rouge.

Re: www.Spiritofclubvalan.com this is most excellent news as I had been wondering where to billet this year since Val and Alan’s retirement last year. Our group have stayed with Club Valan three times over recent years and found the airport location to be very good. (Tip: don’t pitch your tent near the bottle bank unless you like the sound of breaking glass in the early hours!) The ability to be able to get a free shuttle bus from the campsite (it leaves from the airport terminal building) to the main grandstand area, driving around the airfield’s perimeter road and thus breezing past the log jammed traffic on the public roads, is really useful.

Also, the provision of breakfast and evening meal in the mess tent is great for us. It avoids the rigmarole of having to fit cooking gear into a 911 and arguments over who does the washing up. In addition the portable showers and bogs brought onto the site have been very good, with no lengthy queues or little old French lady selling you a few sheets of gossamer thin toilet tissue before one ducks into an ancient bog block whilst trying to hold one’s breath against the fetid atmosphere for the duration.

We shall now be booking with ‘Spirit of Club Valan’. Roll on June!

Cheers guys, contact made.
this pitch is ideal for me. A short bike ride to the main gates, then also bikes ride to Arnage for shopping and town action, (i mean the racing).
I can also get to Mulsanne in 20 from here. suits me sir. Spot on ..

Good that you are sorted - you’ll find it a gteat spot!
Great to see Spirit of Club Valan website as well.... although I don’t think that the picture of the Lambo is at the site (far too many trees).
For the sake of a few weeks we would have likely booked there..... after 24 hours of being by the track and (likely) zero sleep we may well be heading back there next year!
