A motorsports event without the support of the emergency services is a non-starter I think. Can you imagine the bad PR for Goodwood if ambulance (s) were required due to a crash?

No public emergency services, private will still be there and can provide the same I think?

Slightly confusing message - nothing forced to close or cancel but you shouldn’t go and socialise. Almost implies they want to close venues but don’t want to be the decision makers - will potentially make it difficult for refunds etc

Not a helpful message from government. They should have gone the whole hog and banned gatherings of x amount of people.
FWIW, I think it will only be a matter of days before a carpet ban comes in.
Irrespective, I’ve already taken the decision I won’t be attending because I will do whatever I can do to minimise the risk to myself, my family and others.

From another forum: "MM78 will be using a number of paramedics as volunteers on rescue units etc, if they have shifts changed or cannot be released then you don't have minimum medical cover, Motorsport UK Steward then can't sign off the event to run."

Obviously the statement "Not supporting mass gatherings using emergency workers" means that the paramedics will not be available.

i doubt goodwill will get enough participants to hold this now.. they dont get paid,, why risk it for bit of fun, plus many come from abroad .. govt saying nin essential travel...

Bicester just posphoned the scramble meet at end of april to june..

goodwood MM is not happing now.. i know we all want it to go ahead, but its just not going to happen

cant see them running it at all this year.. unless they scrap the FOS and put this on instead as its a lot less work to arrange..

I kidded myself I still wanted to go until about ten days ago. But the prospect of being at this wonderful event but angsting about the elephant in the room 300 miles from home would have ruined it for me . But.... bloody hell ! 2017 I got there but my back pain was so bad I drove home from my B and B on Saturday morning and in 2018 I was chased by polar bears - at least 2019 was fabulous .

Nettles need to be grasped - not much is going to happen in our favourite sport in 2020.

I'm afraid the government's announcement has left Goodwood between a rock and a hard place. No definite ban on mass gatherings could mean that if they cancel any possible insurance payment may not be forthcoming.

The advice is clear, but unfortunately the Government have stepped back from showing clear leadership and shutting down big events, theatre's, bars, restaurants etc.

Bicester's Drive It Day has been postponed until June - I guess they need fewer marshalls etc than Goodwood, but its still a fundamentally outdoor event.

I've just cancelled too whilst I can get a full refund on the hotel. I'd be amazed if there isn't an announcement from Goodwood tomorrow.

I've just emailed my hotel but the T&Cs say 14 days, I doubt I'll be so lucky!

We were going to the classic car and restoration show at the Nec on the same weekend. They were determined to hold it but it was cancelled this morning.
Dont think Goodwood have any choice really

Motorsport UK

“ On Monday 16 March, the UK Government briefed the media in respect of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In light of this, Motorsport UK is awaiting further clarification from the Government Department of Culture Media and Sport as to the implications for motorsport in the UK and will brief our community as soon as we have further clarity. This is anticipated within the next 48 hours.”

rofl "awaiting further clarification" avoid, pubs, clubs, social gatherings and there will be no emergency services. What further clarification do they want? Oh hang on, they want a statement specifically banning motorsport so they can attempt to claim insurance.

It would be better for all event organisers if they were 'ordered' to shut.
I don't know the terms of the insurance but strongly suspect that they would get nothing if they cancel by their own choice.
The insurance may of course have exclusions for war, plague etc.

Don't forget also that insurance isn't 'free'. If massive claims are made this time, then this has to be passed on over the coming years. This might make the running of some of the events (not just Goodwood) unviable. Large hikes in insurance rates will have to be passed on in ticket prices.

It may be better but my laugh was because they are waiting for clarification when it perfectly clear to all and sundry.

Hi Rich,

I wasn't having a go at you with the smiley...

I agree, it has been obvious for a while. I guess Goodwood knows what they must do, but it is just how to do it in the best way.
Further up this thread, it has been said the build-up is on hold. Event organisers are just treading water until they are pushed in to the decision.

My mate has been caught out - booked non-refundable for the first (confirmed) date and lost his cash... then rebooked non-refundable for the present date. Not going well.
