78th Members Meeting
Discussion
They think its all over... it is now.

Important event update
In 2014, after a hiatus of 48 years, Goodwood staged the 72nd Members’ Meeting, successfully reviving a series that began back in 1949. In 2018, the 76th Members’ Meeting raced on through the Beast from the East, while other events succumbed to the freezing conditions.
We had hoped that by following UK Government advice and implementing a number of additional safety and hygiene protocols, we could all ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ as coronavirus threatened the 78th Members’ Meeting. Alas, with the situation constantly evolving, and the news that the UK Government will no longer offer emergency support to mass gatherings this isn’t possible; the safety and wellbeing of our customers remains our highest priority. As such, we regret to inform you that the 78th Members’ Meeting, which was due to take place on March 28-29, has been postponed.
We are currently exploring potential alternative dates with all relevant parties and I would like to reassure you that your tickets will remain valid for the new date.
Goodwood has always relied on the support of the Goodwood Road Racing Club since the very beginning and I would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during these challenging times. Rest assured that we will update you with an alternative date as soon as we can and I look forward to a time in the not-so-distant future when we can once more come together to celebrate everything we love about motorsport.
We will continue to review plans for the Festival of Speed and Revival, in the hope that both events will be able to go ahead as planned on July 9-12 and September 11-13 respectively, as well as looking forward to the rescheduled 78th Members’ Meeting.
In the meantime, if you have any other further questions, please visit our website for coronavirus FAQs ( https://goodwoodmail.com/4S6T-BB0V-HSC11-8JIPB-0/c... ).

Postponing to any point in 2020 seems crazy, I think a proper cancellation will inevitably follow.
I guess this is for cash flow purposes, keep hold of as much of the money as possible until hopefully FoS and other events boost the coffers.
I'm not exactly comfortable with them keeping hold of my £200 and their FAQs do not mention refunds.

I know it is just one of those things, but the only event I planned to attend at GW was the MM78.
Therefore, for my £240 membership this year I will get nothing. I am too far away to take advantage of the Kennels etc, so its only the benefits at the events which I get from it.
I suppose, if I chose to go to no events, I would still have to pay my membership - just a bit of a bad result.
We have to suck it up.

It may be better but my laugh was because they are waiting for clarification when it perfectly clear to all and sundry.
Hi Rich, I wasn't having a go at you with the smiley... Just tried to cancel my hotel booking:
"We're going to have a meeting to discuss what to do about cancellations in the next hour.."
"No need .. you had a cancellation policy in place when I booked, that's the one that's relevant now."
"I'll take a note of your number and get back to you"
Great.

Sad times but we've all just got to bear with all of this until it's resolved (when ever that may be) I suspect that the schools will close either Friday this week / or Monday next to give a month of closure (tied in with the existing 2 weeks half term in April)
Keep Calm and Carry on will be the way to deal with it

Indeed -it is tempting for all of us to complain X happened too slowly, Y too quickly and why haven't they done Z? But it is a crisis that affects us all, and a race meeting, even this one , is not especially important . One thing is for sure - most of us won't take normality for granted again...

I do of course realise that I don't need to be a Member to buy the tickets for the Members' Meeting. It is a matter of having to keep paying to stay in the GRRC - you can't just drop it if you don't want to go to any events that year - you would be straight back at the end of the queue. I have been in for 10+ years, not going to drop it just because I can't take up any benefits (such as they are) this year.

they have ignored 3 attempts by me to get a refund with standard response; we are looking to reschedule and will advise.
... they haven't ignored you then if they gave you a response... the T&Cs says no refund if thats correct ? just hold tight and wait ... NickUSA said:
Given the current situation, how long is reasonable for any organisation to hold back from giving a refund? Goodwood are not the only ones holding onto money.
They will presumably be very short staffed and quite possibly not in the office at all at the moment, plus I can't imagine their jobs are "essential" right now.In my job I can reply to emails, calls etc and get so far with things, but there is a limit to what is technically possible from home.
Given what is happening with other businesses in the leisure industry, it would surprise me if they had not furloughed a number of staff to manage their costs - this is impacting a large number of good companies ability to respond. Also if they are not key workers the staff will not be able to get on to site to process the refunds - unless they live in the big house....
