I have just received the email about the postponing of the event. I have dropped them an email to see if I can get a refund on it. I bought two grands worth of tickets which I would rather have the cash for than keep on with it being postponed.

I really personally cannot see how they will run the event this year. If the government have got on top of this virus by then, are they really going to want tens of thousands of people gathering in one area and risking the whole thing starting again?

I do think a lot of these even organisers are being naive rather than optimistic!

With MM they will refund if you phone the ticket office.

How on earth can you run the 78MM, FOS and Revival all potentially within a few weeks of each other?
And prep would need to start whilst we are still in the thick of it I would have thought, which is a pretty brave decision to make financially.
I suppose you could run the MM and Revival within a few weeks of each other, and that way only have to do the setup once ... but for FoS to be late summer, they'd realistically need to start doing the build by July, and who knows if we'll be back to normal by then...

They could combine them all together for one amazing 4 day event...

No thank you... The MM is so different to the Revival with all the crowds.

I've got the circuit booked (for a large event) on the Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, I'm wondering if they will contact me as that weekend would be ideal for MM, with Revival then two weeks later.

If they postpone the Revival to later or next year even, how do we stand as to refunds of tickets? I’ve spent over £2000 on tickets, the hotel can be cancelled last minute, I’m coming from Cheshire.
Lucky to actually get a hotel, but if he changes the dates it will be hell trying to get another hotel in time as they are booked up well in advance.
So does postponed = no refund?
Cancelled = refund?

I'm not sure on the legalities but with MM they were willing to refund by phone. I imagine that would also involve returning the ticket, as presumably they will be re-used (the ticket fob alone does not look like a cheap exercise!). I'm not sure but presumably the QR codes on the back of the fob are not all unique, i.e. they may not be able to cancel an individual ticket.

The cynic in me thinks if they hold off as long as possible and only announce that the MM has been cancelled later this year, the vast majority of people will happily let their ticket roll over to March 2021. Possibly less of an issue with FoS as not so many tickets will have been sold yet.

I emailed them for clarity and got a mostly generic response that they were busy.

However, they did say that if they re-arrange it and I am not happy with the date I can have a refund.

I think I might just hassle them for the refund now tbh.

I was just going to ask the same question. I requested a refund but they told me I’d have to wait until the new date is announced and they’ll refund if I can’t make it. Poor form from Goodwood imo, they’ve been sat on my money for 6 months and still no idea of what the future holds. I really can’t see FOS going ahead this year and if it does it’ll be a shadow of its former self with so many manufacturers and teams desperately trying to save money...

I’ve seen that it’s cancelled but still looking for dates late summer. 78MM has been rescheduled for next year.

Hi Rich,

As far as I understand it, the official position is that it is postponed, with "new dates due soon".
MM78 is provisionally now 10-11th April 2021.

That said, it is almost certain that FoS 2020 won't happen.
A difficult position for Goodwood - there must be a cut-off date that they know once reached, there just wouldn't be time to get it organised. I can't believe they are still doing the preperation at the moment as it is most likely all going to be wasted. An early announcement that it gets scrubbed and they regroup for next year would help.

Might be worth starting a Revival 2020 thread and move on to discussing that one. I don't hold out much hope for that either - I don't have tickets nor hotel booked at present, and I think I would be foolish to do so at this stage.

I'm hoping they make a final decision soon, I have 4 day tickets booked for me and my lad, go every year, and accommodation booked as well which I'll need to cancel. I doubt any later date in the year will suit me.

It's going to be a huge financial hit for goodwood and local businesses I would have thought. But there must be massive logistical issues with cars, buildings, staff, drivers etc?

Surely any date this year would mean a very much watered down version of the normal FOS?

This was an email from them last week;

"After careful consideration and in light of the ongoing coronavirus situation and the UK Government’s latest advice on mass gatherings, we have taken the decision to postpone the 78th Members’ Meeting until 2021, with the provisional dates being 10-11 April 2021. Previous racing and demo announcements, like the exciting Rally Sprint, two-heat Gerry Marshall Trophy and the insane S.F. Edge Trophy are all planned to take place.

In the meantime, we are continuing to work on a range of options concerning both the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and the Goodwood Revival for later this year, and will report back within the next few weeks with our plans."

Pretty sure FoS will be cancelled / postponed til next year - but it's not been agreed as yet.

If it does go ahead this year presumably it will be with a lot fewer tickets which has to affect the profitability !

I had my replacement tickets yesterday for the 2021 event. I did think my 2020 tickets would roll over and be valid but i guess that’s probably too difficult to manage at the entrance gates etc.

Would be interesting to know exactly how many people they’re expecting/ tickets sold compared to past years? Whether there actually is a reduction in numbers attending?
