Arrive in Johannesburg Monday morning (guess the airport is no longer called Jan Smuts!) and will need to get myself a phone or at least a SIM card as soon as I get there. In the UK there's a shop on every corner just about, is it as easy in SA? Is it remotely possible that I will be able to buy a pay as you go SIM at the airport?

Any advice hugely appreciated.

Thanks
Shel

You will be able to buy any one of 3 Pay-as-you-go at the airport:

1. Vodacom
2. MTN
3. Cell-C

All offer the same services. Mobile phone charges are relatively expensive in SA, I must warn you...I found myself going through the equivalent of £5 per day whilst there!

Thanks for that Amabok. I landed yesterday and rented really easily a dongle modem for just over a quid a day with SIM card good for calls too. Charges are high, I reckon I've clocked up about a fiver already in about 36 hours!
