Some Rapha core bibs, worth a go for £60
Did just under 70 miles in these on Saturday, first impressions are good.

The pad isn't the most technical in appearance but for me it was comfy straight away with no pressure points or rubs after the ride either.

The main body of the shorts is a nice quality, not quite as nice as my Rapha Lightweights though, the front is cut quite low, makes taking a pee easy.

The legs are cut quite long, the grippers are nice, a good 30mm or so of silicon and even with a mid ride downpour of biblical proportions they remained firmly in place.

Straps have a bit of give in them, which is good because I just don't fit in the Pro Team bibs due to the straps being too constrictive. They're not mesh though which could mean they get a little hot on warmer days, but the back cut out is big meaning good ventilation in that area.

8/10 I'd say with a few points docked for the material and pad.

Got some new pedals for the commuter. Nearly went with the Orange, but decided to go with the black finally. DMR V12
Hope these will work well with the hiking shoes I'm using, but might follow up with some bike-specific shoes.
I use V12 with £20 a pair Gelert hiking shoes from Sports direct. The soles rubber is so soft it's silly, grip is amazing. The shoes are rubbish for walking though as the different rubber heel falls apart. I found this out as bought one pair rode bike and used them hiking and was amazed at the grip. Then the heel started falling apart, I relogated them to bike only and no change to heel so as only £20 bought another pair, I don't use them walking only on the one and they have stayed in one piece. Billy bargain :-)

I used a cheap pair of hiking shoes (from SD too!) with V8s and thought they were fine...until I got proper shoes. The solid soles of FiveTens are miles better IMO, even more grip and a lot more solid connection between shoe and pedal platform which means more confidence etc.

Same with my pedal purchase, although, to my shame, I forgot that they're usually included and am only now feeling OUTRAGED!

Have finally succumbed to old age and bought a pair of full-finger gloves. Haven't ridden with such for, well, not sure I ever have. Bought a long-sleeve Endura fleecy cycling top to go with it. Still gets a bit cool here in the winter.

Also needed to replace the outer chainring on the Yeti - running 2x10, with a 40T XT outer ring. Usually just replace the whole crankset every two years, but managed to wear the outer ring in about 12 months, so bought it on its own. So simple to replace too - just undo 4 bolts, tilt and slide over the crank. Had it in my head it would be crank out job to get to the bolts. See how long it lasts.

Will have had the Norco coming up for a year, so probably time to do chain/cassette/rings on that too.

Struggled getting some pedals off cranks that they'd been on for a few years. Bought a Lezyne Pedal wrench today which was up to the job. Very satisfying having right tools for the job.

Aldi visit - picked up bike lights, base layer and mini pump.

Might go back for some GT-85 which they are selling at £1.99, which seems cheap.

Couple of these which for £9 are great for commute, spare battery, usb and in a box! See they're out of stock again, they were when I noticed them but was the same deal when they came in last night, so keep checking if you're interested.

I've bought a Maxxis Aggressor tyre to replace the High Roller II on the back of my Orange Four. I've been struggling on climbs since switching to the Orange, and a few people have mentioned that they felt the same and attributed it to the standard tyres, which are considered more a of grippy front tyre, but are fitted to both wheels.

Hopefully I'll be able to get it fitted and tested before my trip to Yorkshire at the weekend.

Trek Emonda ALR 2018 frameset. 64CM. Also ordering Ultegra groupset hopefully for next week.

My 61cm Felt F85 wasn't cutting it for me size wise being 6"6'.
