New Hayes Dominion brakes to replace Code RSC's. To me these brakes seem like a level above any other modern brakes I've tried. Slightly less feel than the codes maybe, but seem better built and the consistent bite point and power is something I've been missing from Sram, Hope and Shimano.

Hope 155mm cranks. I have a Meta AM29 which I bought back in 2020. I replaced the 29 back wheel with a 27 as soon as I got it. It was fine at first, but the low pedals have begun to annoy me more and more for some reason. My old cranks were 170 and I cant quite believe how much difference 15mm makes in terms of not hitting stumps/rocks/ruts. Hope recommended reducing the chainring size by 2 teeth, so I've gone from 32t to 30t. Still feels harder to pedal than it used to, but not too drastic.

Not really bike bits as such but this turned up today:

I've dropped a few hints at home too and looks like the mrs has bitten, I mentioned there was a 10% discount code online for it and she said 'FFS' so either she is sick of me talking about it, or she's bought it.

Gave in and brought the Rapha Brevet Gore Tex jersey with the Black Friday discount.

Took it for a test ride today and was impressed. Very fitted so glad I took their advice to size up. Incredibly well insulated and I was toastie with a base layer at 5c and a real feel of -1c.

Not really what I've bought, but I won a Zwift smart bike and Wahoo Kickr bundle so I sold my Tacx Flux so the jersey above was free, right?

I’ve spent over a year umming and aring over a new trail rig as I know what I like (low, long and slack) but have been unable to see anything I liked. I did end up demoing a stumpjumper evo but came away feeling very disappointed (didn’t feel long , low and slack compared to my current nicolai geomatron). Finally settled on the sentinel with a plan to wait for the new 2025 model but it wasn’t a great change compared to current model so nabbed a very good deal a few days ago

^ yes that Transition looks very tasty. Nice shock too. And the box!

I nearly FTK on a 50% off High Tower this morning from Stif at £3,449 but resisted the urge as I really don't need it.

Fellow G1 owner here too

I ended up with a druid as my trail bike. Not hugely long, but a lot of fun on twisty poppy natural trails.

If you ever want a long low slack hardtail, see if you can find a Pole Hardtail - Taival. Like a Hardtail G1 in geo terms.

My nicolai is a first gen so it’s around 8 years old, still long at 500mm reach and slack at around 63 degree head angle which is still very current but the seat tube is stupidly long so the longest dropper I can run is 150mm. Do still really like the g1 but it’s more bike than I would need for what I get up to now days. Nicolai fb page is a wealth of information and most people are sensible as they know there are other good bike about now days.

Already have a long, low, slack hardtail of a kona honzo esd, did have a sick frame as well. Did look at the pole as well but it was alway a bit more expensive than other options.

It’s a bit annoying, the alloy frame comes with the dpx shock while the carbon comes with the x2. I would prefer the x2 and may upgrade at a later date.

There are some good deals out there now the new models are coming out.

A heads up for anyone thinking of using Chris King’s gravel wheel set, DON’T.

I had a failure of a delaminating wheel internally a month after purchase. This was fixed under warranty without issue.

Today I have had a spoke failure close to the hub on my rear wheel. What is more concerning is the bulging in the carbon around the spokes on front and rear wheels pointing to further delaminating inside the rims! The wheels will now be going back to CK under warranty again but I will not be accepting a replacement set.

I will be removing the CK hubs which have had zero issues and having them built up with ENVE rims. This is a similar setup to what I run on my OPEN wide gravel bike so have more confidence in their structural integrity.

I was in Halfords this afternoon, buying those foam tiles for my garage floor. I had a little nose about upstairs and found a Schwalbe Hans Dampf 27.5x2.35 tyre for £35.

I've got a huuuuuuge bill incoming for my 2015 Giant Anthem, including a new fork and pivot bearings. This tyre, a little more aggressive and wide than I ideally wanted, seems like a drop in the ocean in comparison, but it should be a good (front) tyre for tackling a Gorrick Brass Monkey race (or perhaps two) in the New Year. It already has a new Nobby Nic on the rear wheel. It'll (hopefully) be a big improvement over a worn out current pairing of a Nobby Nic (f)/Racing Ralph (r).

I'm stealing myself for more spending on it, as it's likely to need new chainrings soon, and lack of availability hints at that becoming a full chainset. The shop mechanic is adamant that I should wait out for now, though, and he's also pushing me toward "going 1x" instead of replacing the 2x chainset.

I saw the bike in the workstand at the shop on Friday, and they were having issues setting up the remote lockout on the fork. Something the bike originally didn't have. With the state of some of our local trails, I'm looking forward to getting back on my MTB, if only to give my gravel bike a break from the gloop every now and then...

Can anyone suggest a replacement front light for the ALDI cree light? (pic below).

I've owned it for years, afew years ago the plastic/silcone button wore off, leaving the switch that's on the PCB exposed. that PCB switch has fallen off it and would require soldering (which i don't want to do yet), this is the only reason stopping me from using it.

requirements
- similar design/shape, with the mount attached to the light (not something i leave on the bike and slip on/off).
- equal or brighter than the cree one i had.... i have no idea what the lumens are. I'd like brighter, but i don't want to spend more than needed.

Usage
- cycling around london. at night needs to be bright enough for me to spot debris/pot holes. I don't want to blind/ps off others
- used as a day light on low setting as a solid beam, sunny days it's a on medium.
- sometimes used as a flashing light in rain
- sometimes used pointed downwards just to light up the area around the front of my bike for being seen more, solid/flashing.
- don't really need more than 1-2hours battery as my rides tend to be less than an hour.

so far i'm drawn to the leyzne stuff.. but cant decide what the right lumen would be as I don't know what the lumen of my ALDI one was.

The Lezyne ones are great and for your use case I'd imagine any of them would be bright enough so I'd just see if you can get a good deal!

I use a 1000XL on my bars and a smaller one as a helmet mount and they're plenty enough for night MTB so they will be fine for commuting.

I've recently bought some Magicshine lights - I've got the SeeMee 300 rear light and the Allty 1500 front light. Very impressed! The rear light is mega.

Your Aldi light (I have one too) is a knock-off of a Lezyne model anyway. One good thing about Lezyne is (or definitely was) that you can order spares, like a new silicone strap. Mine sits alongside a brighter light and mainly gets used as a backup.

Another option is Halfords own lights. Similar silicone strap mount, with an alternative to swap to a mount under an 'out front' Garmin mount. I've got a couple of older design 1600 lumens models as my main front light, had them ages. They have been bashed about a lot, and some issues are appearing with battery life and being unable to run one of them on the highest setting (overheat safety cutout seems unreliable these days). The redesign is smaller, with less battery capacity, but better lens design and a neater package size.
