Electric bicycles - who buys them?

Normally hidden away in the garage which is fairly hard to get into. I think they had been prowling around for some time and unfortunately I'd left it in the conservatory as I was using it two days in a row... Lesson learnt.

So stolen from inside the house? Surely that is covered by your contents policy generally?

I've used Datatag systems before on my motorbikes. I've just had a look on their website and they seem to do a few types of tagging, anyone used them for EMTB's?

Just added bike cover for two bikes to AXA home insurance for £11.60 p.a. Not high value bikes though - up to £1500 each.

Aviva house insurance is 4 bikes up to 10k I think, wife sorted it out but it was hardly any increase over the year.

Also liability insurance is included

Aviva is up to £5k per bike, and is based only on the value of the most expensive. It seems to cover everything the dedicated bike insurers do except “race” cover.

Might be axa actually, not sure. Either way they are both insured under the house policy.

I'm with Esure. It's a good policy in general, but only covered up to £500 for bikes without adding them as single items.

Halifax is the same pretty much, negligible increase and several bikes covered. Only named if above a threshold

Just whipped up the Sheepwash here in Osmotherley as if no different to normal, hanging off the back was my 7 year old on her Bobbin road shopper bike.

Great for getting the Fam out.
Now to find a Girls MTB second hand for the summers jaunts.

Who buys them ?

Teenage lads seem to be buying them, heard one say as he went past on his, on his phone "Well mine is modified and totally illegal" and another went past last night when walking the dog, must have been doing about 30 without pedalling.

So many must be modified or just not legal anyway, can get a 1000/1500 watt wheel on eBay for not much money.

Let's just hope that this doesn't escalate to E-MTB's being banned from sites. I am currently enjoying my local country park where previously I couldn't take my Trial or Motocross bike, and enjoy the fresh air and views plus taking a few photo's all of which are too far for a lazy git like me to walk. So hopping on the e-MTB to get to isolated places is one of those pleasures I wouldn't like to loose.

I wouldn't have thought that teenage boys would be able to afford one.

One thing that many people misunderstand is that e-bikes are electrically assisted, and so you have to be pedalling. There is no throttle that can cause the bike to be driven without pedalling. The modifications are to the speed at which assistance cuts out. By law, that is 15.5mph, but some people modify it so that the motor will assist at higher speeds.

But, eBay has numerous rear and front wheel conversion kits for less than £200, plus a battery for another £200 and lash the lot on your old MTB, for £400 or so you have a 1000 Watt electric bike you dont need to pedal.

And round here, see a few kids on 2k plus mountain bikes, my son is 21 and his mates have M3's, S3's etc, his mates brother has a Hurracan in his early twenties so there are plenty of kids about with access to cash though the ones I saw looked like low end MTBs that had been converted.

I happened across a Youtube video last night by some cockney sounding cretin called "Duxel" who was riding what is not an ebike or MTB, but an electric motocrosser - a "Sur Ron X" and taking it on the road to some bike park near Camberley, Video is him making out that it's fine, it's an ebike innit - the YT comments were the usual cretins you get on there so I never bothered commenting.

Absolute nob - it's not an ebike - it's a MOTORCYCLE, end of. He's probably got no licence, he definitely hasn't got insurance, registration, correct helmet, DOT approved tyres or anything else that he needs to have that out in public.

Normally I'd not be arsed, but these dheads will ruin it for legit eMTB riders at bike parks or even worse get legislation introduced in the same way that the "field bike" and illegal off-road crew have fked everything up for responsible, legal off-road motorcyclist.

Utter tit - I'm hoping to see a video at some point of him getting the godawful looking POS taken off him and crushed as well as bleating about the million points he ends up with.

Yep we have the same problem with Sam Pilgrim doing this on his e motocross bikes locally and the cling on's all following his lead on the local trails in regards to doing whatever the F they like.
we recently had an issue with him creating trails in a nature reserve!
With a following like his you'd have thought he would be more responsible.
