That was three years ago. Would imagine the car is long gone..
I'd be keeping it for at least 5! Still the best hot hatch available at that price

Bloody adore mine too.

Incidentally, if you're considering buying the new style facelift gearknob for your pre facelift car, just do it. Looks better, snugger in the hand, smoother changes due to additional mass and it's taller so your hand finds it quicker in an ep3 type way. Takes about 2 minutes to fit. Terrific mod.

Due to have my new to me FK8 delivered tomorrow (in the same red as yours) Very excited!

This is the first modification I was looking to do, is this to change the gaiter as well? To the new alacantara.

Had ours for over two years now and it's been faultless. A fun car and one that would be very hard to replace for the money. Epic residuals too, bought ours with 1k miles with 5 yr warranty & service pack for £30k, probably get close to 25k today for it. Cheap fun!

Funny you say that, I actually bought mine June 2019 for 23,750 with 8k miles on the clock and sold it in November 2019 with double the mileage for 22,250 which I thought was good going for the fun and mileage I done. I sold it to pocket the money as it was outright to put aside to fund a house purchase and rushed as I thought it would depreciate more.

Over a year later, house purchase is going through and I’m thinking of an M4 but they’re just about out of budget so thought sod it, why don’t I pick up another one for 18-20k and guess what, cheapest one is 21,995 with 27k miles! The next one after that is 23k

Hindsight is a bh, I should have kept mine, done another 11k miles and sold it for 250 less

O well

Here’s mine in all her glory

Considering one of these, currently have a merc CLS diesel and a slightly sorted MX5. Job changes means I'm not commuting by car anymore so this will be for shopping, days out (when we can) and some track days. Makes sense for me going down to one car and really want to get away from dirty diesels.

I'm not new to Type R's, having had DC2's, 5, FD2, S2000 etc... So know the quality of the brand. What is the deal with the used car prices currently, Good / bad time to buy. Are there many just sitting in forecourts at the moment so good deals to be had?

I'm set on red, why not, this is a shouty car (which I love) so might as well go for a bold colour. All my previous type R's have been white. Also what's the in gear performance like, will it match say an E92 M3..

Thought I'd share a photograph of my knob.

Reminds me of the Integra knobs, its a lot heavier than the ball shape, feels good - haven't fitted it yet due to snow/laziness/drunkeness.

You’d be pushed to find a decent one for under 24k on a 17 plate. It did make me laugh as Carwow on YouTube did a review of the TOP 25 least depreciating cars and the Type R wasn’t on the list. A drop of only 5k in 3 years I reckon would be top 5

These cars are just unbelievable fun! I absolutely love driving it!

Now that the weather is improving you can really feel the way this grips the road and how it forces you to take the next corner even quicker.

The best car I've ever owned.

Below I've highlighted the positives for any future buyers.

Awesome looks
Fun to drive
Fantastic shift feel / gearbox
Perfect weighted clutch
Incredibly comfortable for a hot hatch
Upto 38mpg if doing motorway driving
Plenty of head & legroom front & rear
Large boot / practical
Track & b road weapon
Unbelievably comfortable seats

Only negatives i would say is that the fuel tank could have been 50 litres rather than the 46 to get that few extra miles before having to fill up.

Better infotainment system

Overall a must have car. Only had positive comments from people.

Well after fitting the facelift knob, I actually prefer the less weightier standard knob. The heavier one feels a bit better in the hand (haha), and the extra weight makes the shifting action smoother, but it loses that mechanical notchiness (in a good way) of the standard knob, so I've swapped it back.

On the subject of swapping things, car is in for new tyres next Monday, blimey they are more expensive than the equivalent items on the FK2. I know we've gone up an inch in size but even so it's a hefty premium. I've gone for Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (fronts) as I swapped the Contis when I had my FK2 for PS4s and was very impressed, especially wet weather handling.

I finally washed it last weekend so gratuitous photo alert.

Having had an FN2 and swapping it for my MK7 GTI PP stage 1 I'm looking at an FK8 as a possible replacement - one question, what's the boot length like, as I ride mountain bikes and like to have the bike/s in back of the car rather than hanging off the back.

Its either an FK8 or an estate but I think I'd miss the engagement of a hot hatch if I go down the wagon route.

I once had to get a three seater sofa to the tip.

Cut the ends off and the whole thing fitted in the boot obvs with the rear seats down smile.

Think a bike would be fine.

Bike should be fine, just put a sheet of tarpaulin down. It's the only car so far I can see replacing my vRS which also has a cavernous boot and fits my road bike in whole. It took a whole bathtub a few weeks ago for a tip run.

Hey folks,
Test drove Type R last weekend. We have always lusted after an FK8 since it was released. I had very very high expectations from all I had read and watched.

And you know what?

It exceeded all expectations. It was epic!!!

So we pick it up this Friday. Its black, and is already nicknamed the batmobile.

Stoked!!!

Congratulations on the purchase! They really are brilliant. You'll have to put some pics up on Friday (once you've stopped driving it!)

Hey Folks,

Sorry that i haven't managed to get pics uploaded yet, but suffice to say I am loving the car.
This thing really is a proper drivers car. Impressive machine.

Reviewers in the past have only managed to comment negatively on 3 things really.

1) Exhaust note too quiet. WRONG -It's perfect, i dont want to rattle the neighbours windows or have the kids deaf in the back seats.
2) Infotainment- It's more than good enough for me. Just drive and stop farting about pressing buttons.
3) The looks. I appreciate everyone has their own opinion. In my opinion, it loooks EPIC!

The driving experience is an event. I look forward to getting in it. I look at it when it's parked up. It feels special from the moment the bum gets in the seat.

I have been lucky that the roads here have been dry this week. My god It is brisk A to B. It's a car that you go round a roundabout or get on the gas early out a corner and it just does it, leaving you thinking.....how much more can this thing take?!!!

The R mode surprises me with how much the steering weight increases, in a good way.
It hides speed well (lack of exhaust drone helps)
I checked tyre pressures and fronts were down at 36PSI, so put up to 41PSI.

The gear change is a joy to use. I am happy to leave the Dual clutch boxes to the traffic light heroes.

I think people get too absorbed into drag race videos on youtube to determine what is best. It's not just lap times that do the talking for the Type R, it's a car that excites, and gets the pulse racing. In a world of Battery powered cars creeping in, and a market flooded with hot hatches, I really do think this Type R is one to be remembered in amongst the true greats......

Sorry for getting all motoring journalisty at the end there.

Bobby
