I used to love Hondas and was a big fan of the Type R until they bought out the FN2. Its all gone downhill since then. Type R has been watered down way too much now so I've lost interest completely.

I had £37k to buy a car and I ended up with a Lotus Elise Cup. I found that's more in tune with the old Type R ethos as its lightweight, raw and noisy. biggrin

Its just too refined and Repmobile now IMO.

Holy smokes, that looks horrible. I'd still have one as i love it's single mindedness.

As i've said before, it may be a great car....BUT, it looks like Darth Vader's Bell-End humping a Ripspeed cabinet in Halfords.

Truly makes my eyes hurt
I think it looks bloody brilliant, one of the most aggressive front ends I've seen that is sub £100k.

That's like a 1990s Max Power readers wk fantasy given form. There must be a market of people who grew up ruining their corsas and so on trying to make them look like that who now have the means to buy it ready made. I think they call them "Wallet Barrys" on BarryBoys hehe

This is so clever.

Congrats! Let us know how it goes (a Readers Cars thread would be cool)

I wonder if they will ever do an auto version. They say it's manual only to keep the pure driving experience, but I wonder if it's actually because they don't have a suitable transmission to put in it. I can't think of any other auto Honda, sold anywhere, that could lend its transmission to this car.
I have seen both reasons given: "Type-Rs should be manual" and "Honda don't have a suitable auto box".

I like to think if Lamborghini made a hot hatch, it would look like this. And everyone would love it!

I'm really struggling to get my head round the styling, but you have undoubtedly picked the best colour by a mile! After seeing multiple FK8's at FoS and a few on the road I really don't think that the red, black or white work at all, while this blue/grey you've chosen is really very nice.

Enjoy!

It looks like primer in photos, but looks very smart in the flesh.

I have to admit I think they look horrible - like somebody has covered the car in superglue and ramraided Halfords.
The rear of the new civic just looks wrong, those little (or not so little) black plastic grills sit at totally the wrong height. I suppose they're a change from bland rep mobiles but hmmmmmm

This thing is selling well in USA and Canada. Wonder how Europe is doing.

Is that the Sonic Grey Pearl? Had a similar colour on a Clio I used to have, really liked it in the flesh.

I need to see one of these in real life I think, just can't decide from the pictures if it's just too over the top.

Other than the looks I like pretty much everything about it, all the reviews suggest it's more exciting to drive than the competition but can do the boring stuff well in comfort mode, perfect for a hot hatch.

Seem to have left my spare 30k elsewhere at the moment though. If I find it then I'll book a test drive biggrin

Whoa, that is some serious chisel-jaw going on there. I didn't realise they went that aggressive with it. Looks good, looks like a fast Japanese car should; it should look like it came straight from the hands of a Gundam Wing animator.

I think they look mental and totally bonkers which is great. Love the 3 exhausts, saw one the other day and had to have a look as to why there are 3, it's quite clever.

The styling is clearly a love-hate thing, but whichever side of the fence you are on, you have to give kudos to Honda for going with a bold, brave and original design rather than playing it safe.

People either love it or hate it. But everyone will recognise it. And everybody has an opinion on it. Nobody says "yeah, whatever".

They could have played it safe and produced something like the Golf or the Leon. But they didn't.

Chapeau, Honda.

Personally I love the way it looks. The outrageous styling is exactly what I love about it. IMHO no other £30k car says "fk you" like this one does. It's giving 2 fingers to the conventional idea that these days you have to do a very safe design that's a minor iteration over the very safe design you had before, because you're frightened of offending people.

I work for Honda and have driven the FK8 a bit on road and around Brands Hatch. It is impressive how they have managed to improve the car as much as they have.

As for the looks, it's all subjective; people will hate it or love it - I stare at one all day and it's grown on me a lot.

We had a Focus RS in the car park and the FK8 next to it - the RS looked seriously tame compared to the Type R.

Was sat behind a car transporter stacked with FK8s this morning on the way to work. I've decided, I love 'em.

Probably way too tight fisted/sensible (delete as applicable wink ) to buy one new, but still.

Congrats smile

Please do give us your initial impressions!

Think I'd have mine in black as the rear seems a little awkward to me.
