I’m trying to sort out availability and prices of the Type R at the moment.
How did you get on?

There is loads of availability at the moment, and due the completely flat sales there are some good discounts to be had!
I’m trying to put a deal together. Hoping to get it sorted next week. I haven’t got a part exchange so can buy from anywhere. Any recommendations?

I’ll update once the deal is done. Thanks.

Just noticed some cracking pre-reg deals;

Or new:

Just remember that these cars are not selling, and their values appear to be dropping like mad at the moment, so it’s a buyers market. Dealers might suggest there are no discounts, but there certainly are!

Thanks for the links. Discounts for new seem to be about £2k max although there is one at £2650. Any ideas what may be achievable? Perhaps the service plan or mats thrown in as well? Or more cash off?

Thanks.

The 5 year service plan is a good saving and would give the impression that you might be a long term customer ?? A good negotiating position making it easy for the dealer to help you on the price ?

Collected mine yesterday. Championship white, no options.

What a wonderful car. Better in every way than I expected.

It has a really special feel and character and for me is worth every penny to have something this good.

For me it’s a keeper along with my Abarth and 4.0 GTS Boxster.

Congratulations and enjoy, I still feel the same about mine 6 months in.

On Sunday I drove it following a 2 week holiday and laughed out loud after pushing round a sequence of bends - it's easy to get complacent about the car's abilities when used as a daily (which I do) and it was nice to be reminded the handling is something special.

Can anyone enlighten me on how firm the FL5 really is on UK road? Struggle to find a demonstrator to test drive where i live (newcastle).

I would describe it as stiff (as in stiff bodyshell, which I say as a positive) rather than simply firm.

The body feels like it's staying flat when cornering, but I don't find it too firm at all (and I'm in my 50's!) in Comfort mode - let's put it this way, apart from avoiding potholes as we all do, I don't drive around worrying about the road surface as the car isn't bouncing around.

Having said that R+ mode is way too firm for the road, Sport is between the two (probably closer to Comfort than R+), and Individual allows you to mix chassis, steering, engine and dashboard settings.

The main benefit of the excellent body control is that it gives you confidence about how the car is going to react to your inputs - it doesn't get all loose and out of sorts through say a sequence of bends.

I agree with the above. Only had mine a couple of weeks but it’s clear it’s a superb car.

In comfort it’s compliant without being soft. The other modes are harder but even in R it’s nowhere near as firm as my Abarth or in sport not as bad as the X4M or M4 of current and previous generations that I’ve had. The BMWs always felt overly stiff and harsh to me.

Just convinced my wife that we should part x her m140 for one of these and pick it up from St Albans before the end of the month. An expensive Saturday for me but looking forward to adding this to the garage smile

Congratulations - money well spent in my view. Am sure you won’t be disappointed. First service imminent on mine but it’s been an enjoyable 8k miles so far. Terrific cars.

Agreed. You won’t be sorry. They feel much more special than a m140 and a drive that I think is leagues ahead.

Only had mine a couple of weeks but couldn’t be happier with it.

well picked up the blue machine at the end of the day and had a little go this evening. Really is a great bit of kit and looking forward to stealing this from the wife when she is not looking. That front diff is a thing of wonder and the only area where the m140 had a slight edge is the motor but the 4 pot is still an effective and high revving unit...definitely warrants the 5 star reviews and glad I could pick one up before they stop making them.
