Eh up chaps,

I'll be working in the states soon for a while so thought I'd buy a car whilst over there. There are a few cars that take my fancy but S2000s are top of the list at the moment.

I've been reading about turbo conversions/supercharger conversions and they look great. The turbo cars are putting out 320whp (must be around 400bhp at the crank) with just bolt ons, is this a load of bs or what? Sounds like a hell of a lot of power to me. Although terminal speeds seem to be backing up these figures.

Has anyone had any UK experience of these kits?

I want a car that I can modify, I'm still a boy racer at heart! I know how good the S2000 is in standard form, but like I say I want to play around with whatever car I buy. It'd be rude not to take advantage of the cheap parts in the US

Hi David,

I think there are a couple of people in the UK that have done it, but couldn't tell you who. If you look on the US side of the S2k board though the Yanks really go for modding and there'll be loads of info.

These figures sound realistic but the problem in the UK is tuners (and importing the parts is expensive). I just had a Vortech supercharger installing in mine and the tuner blew the engine. So I have to pay £7000+ to fix it and then sue him.

Is a good place for more s2000 info

Don't turbo it - no end of trouble. Supercharge it if you need the power
Only one person in the UK has Turbo'd the S2000, and he had a nightmare.

$35845 list price I found - about £18900. But still silly money for a car like an S2000

Yeah I've seen them for $30k new after a quick search around. And another well specced one with 800miles on it for $29000, I can't wait now. I'm thinking Vortech supercharger with intercooler and stand alone ECU

We have found superchargers fitted to the vtec engine behave very well and have a very good power delivery. Good perfect set-up.

Lots of successful superchargers in the US. And they are comparitively bolt on. But like everyone says, lots of horror stories about turbos.

Personally, i think the supercharger's a good idea. Centrifugal style (ie Vortech), gives excellent low-end torque without sacrificing that trademark S2000 top-end. Though a turbo would probably go better on the updated 2.2 liter S2K rather than the original 2.0. If you're intent on turbos, Alex Pfeiffer runs a turbo'd S2K in the Formula D series, so seeing as how you're in the U-S-of A, maybe it would be worthwhile getting on to whoever did his car.

David, whereabouts in the US are you going? I may be able to give you some S2K contacts in the area. They do a lot of S/C over in the states

I think you got that a bit wrong, a supercharger wont do anything to low-end torque, you dont start making any boost till about 4000 revs and max boost is at max revs 9k.

Turbo will get peak power from 4k all the way upto 9k.

Turbo gives low end torque more than an SC, which is why rs*r used a custom turbo on their S2000 drift car www.rs-r.com

Here's a lot of FI info for the S2000:

US centric, but useful all the same.

Turbo a lot harder to deal with by all accounts
