If properly looked-after it shouldn't break down on you.

That's not to say stuff won't need replacing...clutch and synchro are probably the weaker points on a DC2, and rear calipers have been known to seize...plus there's a lot of bushes to change when they get tired.

But go into it eyes-open accepting that it's an older car and it's hard to beat!
thanks.

so I would appreciate some replies. what do most of you prefer? then dc2 or the dc5?

as strange as it would seem I would quite like to free up some cash and have something older that I can look after etc, such as a dc5 around 9-10k or a dc2 around 6-7k I am not sure. i will drive them both then decide.

As a driving tool the DC2 is the one to get. If it's a looked after example it's not going to be unreliable, and the driving experience is just that- an experience. Every time you get in it and drive, you'll be wondering why all cars can't feel so 'right'.

As has been said, the synchros (particularly 3rd/4th) are a weak point, and if it's fitted with aircon keep an eye on the drive belt tensioner, but apart from that they're just stupidly bullet proof in almost every respect.

I unfortunately killed my Integra in an accident, but if I were going to choose again between the DC2 and the later DC5, it would be the older car I'd be scouring the owners clubs classifieds for. The newer car is better than an EP3 Civic, but not as in tune or engaging as the original.
