Hi

I live a couple of miles from one Oulton. I'm hearing the bikes go round today and ever so slightly jealous.

Has anyone ever got a discount to "fill spaces" on the day?

Could do the same with my car, there's a few car days coming up

Cheers

My only experience of that is turning up and chancing a few hours at a reduced rate, you know, like weather is uncertain, turns out nice so go to track, and an afternoon can be had sometimes, but not necessarily cheap overall if you see what I mean

Do you really believe that TDO's will allow that?? They have to pay up front, a great deal of money to hire a circuit to sublet it to enough people to attempt to make a profit! Now if word got round that you could "arrive and drive" as and when it suited people, depending upon weather, traffic, or any other inconvenience, then everyone would tip up just for a couple of hours in the afternoon. The odd one will do it, but you will pay almost the same as a full day!!

Yes. My experience is that if you turn up and there is space, they will happily take your money. My experience is also that popular TDs are often sold out, so this isn't always an option.

You can do this at hotels, who, like TDs have a fairly fixed cost and therefore do better with more spaces filled than less. There are whole websites dedicated to exactly this for holidays. Of course you can do this.

Well, I've done it, and did say 'chance' and 'not necessarily cheap if you see what I mean',

It depends on a few things on the day, whether they recognise you, who you're with, how busy, weather, red flags already, late arrivals, negotiation skill, or outright cheek if you like haha, it's a gamble, just decide if you want to take it. You are correct of course, they wouldn't tolerate such behaviour en masse.

Use to do this a lot....head for anyone with an Alfa and wait...buy their ticket/number off them when they breakdown. A bit uncomfortable sometimes asking for their ticket when they have just wasted their day.

Only joking about the Alfas

If there's space they'll sell it but rarely at much/any discount. The benefit of selling a couple of places on the day at a reduced rate is greatly outweighed by the annoyance that people don't book in advance leaving the TDO with an event that isn't covering it's own costs and the likelihood that they will be more prone to doing the same next time if they get a discounted rate.

IME they wont. If they did everyone would wait to the last minute to see what weather is doing etc. They want firm numbers early doors.
Some places do early bird discounts, and some do discounts a month or so before - just to encourage the last few spaces to go on day thats proving unpopular.
As mentioned above, the only way to do an on the day and get some discount is to take someone else place and buy it off them, some TDOs have no objection to this.

The early bird discounts I like and take advantage of, but those who discount it just before the event ? I`m not a fan.

If you want my commitment and money early then don`t reduce the price when you are struggling to fill the day. It doesn`t exactly inspire me to book early if I find the TDO is one who always discounts it if they can`t fill it up. frown

I've done this at Brands with MSV before.

Turned up at lunchtime to see a few cars in pieces and after chatting to a mate decided to give it a go.

MSV asked a load of questions, gave me a quick briefing and then charged me half the rate as it was just an afternoon left.

Had a great day and even with a boot full of folding chairs, a coat, an umbrella etc the Mk1 MX5 did very well thank you smile

Another reason why MSV are a great company to do track days with I guess!

I've done it with Open Track at Cadwell Park,

turned up for a decibel test after rebuilding my car, had a morning on track as well smile.

They even opened to fuel station especially for me.

Cadwell are quite good like that, I once went in to ask where the closest garage was (knowing very well where it was) and they said hang on a mo & we will open the fuel station.

Last track day I was on at Croft someone turned up on the day. TDO just did the briefing with him and off he went.
