Can't see why age would make a difference except that if one is older and has certain financial commitments maybe it isn't possible to take a step back on the career ladder. Or, at least I hope it is possible because I am doing the same on the wrong side of 30.

Was a project manager till 5 months ago. Thought I would move from energy developments to IT PM work. Took an Agile course as a route into IT while still working. Packed in the previous job I hated and decided to force the career transition.

Not getting any bites on my CV because no IT experience....or, managed to make it to 2nd interview stage at dream-job with Williams F1 team for Junior IT PM but had feedback that I didn't get it because I had been too senior a PM previously and the role wouldn't match my previous salary/ambitions. Frustrated and unemployed.

Happened upon http://getintotech.sky.com/. Was accepted. Thought I might just use to it for IT experience but really liking the coding. Its been almost 3 months. Have a decent handle on HTML/CSS (easy) and becoming reasonably adept with PHP (not as easy but getting easier). Starting SQL now and will do C# + .NET in a few weeks. One doesn't have to stay with Sky but it is a feeder for them so we will see what happens...

Some good resources for learning (beyond just paying 8k+ for a bootcamp:
