What a bunch of arseholes. To me a major selling point on any BMW was the warranty, which was a clear industry leader. My next car was almost definately going to be a CSL and this is the first time I've questioned that. Well done BMW.

Sounds a bit like a beancounting decision gone wrong....

I hear what you say about selling new cars and who could care less if they dent their residuals later, however, has it not occurred to BMW that a large percentage of their aftersales business is from owners being required by the warranty to get their cars serviced/maintained at a main dealer (at £95+VAT or whatever per hour). By pushing the warranty out of desired or potential reach, those customers will indeed chose to take their cars to indys for work, thus BMW lose twice - the cost of the warranty, and the standard maintenance / servicing. That's liable to seriously dent their bottom line... careless accountancy.

Was just thinking the same - why pay BMWs high service prices if there is now no warranty benefit for it? My local garage just lost £2-3k a year minimum from me cos I won't be renewing the warranty, so now have no need to use them for servicing. Just need to find a good independent.....
